Chapter 21

The crew did not see the raft any more as it disappeared from sight in the northern zone and they continued towards the Eastern zone. Buru who was on the look out called out excitedly, 'Land ahoy,' (seaman's terminology). Every one came running and could see some trees that seemed to be covered with white clouds of mist and as they approached the land it seemed to be getting colder and the crew who were beginning to feel the cold looked for warmer clothing. They were not use to cold weather living in a warm claimant only Kilu was used to it coming from the north shore, and had lived though changing weather conditions. But he had to admit it was much colder here.

The Eastern shore

The crew after several moons get to the shore and found it covered in some white stuff that they had never seen before. After they had anchored the boat by a nearby reef. The crew make their way onto the beach and was alarmed to finding their feet sinking into the white stuff, but then they realised it was harmless and not dangerous and then they noticed that the white stuff was coming down in flakes from the sky and they realised it was frozen rain. The children liked the frozen rain and began to play in it, laughing and giggling. The adults did not like it as it was hard to see where everything was. Kai said we need to find the last peace of the map and getaway from this frozen shore.

First they needed some food and water and they looked round for a food bin knowing there probably is no food in it.

Then crew saw a stranger who was dressed in some sort of thick clothing and he told them that this part of Isola had been deserted since the snows came. He took them to where there was some food and water he kept and shared it between them. It was some fish that he had caught in the ocean. However he told them with this weather the fish was not biting and food was getting low. He melted the snow and told them they could drink the water. He told them his name was Kamali and he had stayed while the others left or died. Later they want to look at a weather controller near the science lab that Kamali had told them about, but it was not working and that they would need to research it to find out how it would control the weather and to stop the snow and bring back the good weather. Kai and Kilu explained that they were not staying as they had other business to do and that as soon as it was completed they were leaving. Kamali was disappointed but he could understand or he thought he understood.
Kai asked him if they knew where the weather vine was as this was the object that they were studying.

Kamali showed them where it was and it was in the centre of the village. After the cleared away the white stuff that Kamali called snow found a rusty tin box in a place that looked like a fire pit to make a fire. Kai and Kilu thought, Oh no this also needs a key to open this as this is locked. Kamali said, you won’t need a key look the lock is rusty, so it can easily be broken open. He tried to open it but it would not budge. Then he had an idea, let's go to the researched lab and get something to prize it open. Kon Buru joined them after making sure the boat was safe and he whispered to Kilu. 'I don't think we should trust him.'
Kilu turned to Kamali and said, 'Should we start a fire?'
Okay said Kamali it is cold. So I well go for the dry grass and some wood, the science lab is the top of the village.'

Kon, Buru Kai and Kilu made their way to the science lab and was shocked how bleak the whole village looked and realised that a lot of work was needed doing to make it more homely. However who came to live in this village would need to solve the weather conditions. It was not their problem as at the moment in this village, a guiding hand had not yet come to this village as it was not prepared. The guiding hand would one day come here until then, it would remain deserted. Only Kamali would live here as a hermit. For his age no one knew.

At the science lab they found something that would open the rusty tin box, as the part of the writings to where a bouts the key was had faded and knew they would never find the key. What they found was a wedge that would slip under the lid and lever it up. As it was very rusty the lid broke away easily and was glad that it contained the final peace of the map. Even though the tin had rusted though the part of the map was still good. They called the children over and, they made a small celebration for finding the important part of the map. As it was getting late to study the part of the map and also to start out again, after a brief study of the map. It looked like it led to a small island several miles from the mainland. The island was name The Island of Pearls.

The 7 travellers needed a warm hut to sleep in and the only hut that they could see was a hut that was in need of repair so, they asked Kamali if there was somewhere they could stay for the night Kamali showed them an old honeymoon hut was the only shelter they could use from the cold weather. This is where they stayed until morning.
