I feel like I haven't moved on. I have 12 people, nearly 5000 units of food, one hut, flower garden, temple built, graveyard, puzzle 1,2,4,5,7 and 8 are done. I am not sure what to do next. I keep dragging people around and haven't found anything new. Any suggestions?

well, my first suggestion would be to grow your population. This will create more villagers to make research points, and will "trigger" more hut building to occur!
Take notice of some of the objects around the island and the messages that you receive. As you get higher tech levels, explore those objects again to see if work can be done. The villagers themselves will give you clues when they say that they are "curious" about something.
