[SPOILER] Uh oh - GC

Hey all. I've been playing VS 1.0 for the past week or so and I think I ran into a problem. I finally got the GC to be born, but I accidently left the game on fast mode for a good half a day after that. I think the mother died from being sick while she was taking care of him. Is that possible? Will he be born again? What does he look like, and is his name Golden Child? Any help would be appreciated.
Jon

The birth of the GC is not like the birth of ''ordinary" babies. You will see a popup message informing you of the event, and the villagers will gather in Village Center to celebrate the occasion. In addition, the GC is 5 years old when it is born, and is not cared for by its mother. It's unlikely that you missed it.
After you finish your current game, you might want to download and install v1.1, which was released just before Christmas. Be sure that you are ready to start over, though, because the savegames are incompatible and it will delete any v1.0 savegames that it finds on your device.

I see, so what does the GC look like? I don't see anybody that stands out. Does his name show up as Golden Child? I have set the villagers to stop breeding for a while and the youngest person is 25.

If you go to the details screen, it will be very obvious that you have the GC.
I imagine this means he/she has every skill mastered. i honestly dont see anyone that stands out. Are yuo sure it isn't possible for GC to die while being nursed? I've come so far!

Yes, I'm sure! The GC is born a 5-year-old and isn't nursed by its mother. You didn't say how you know that the GC was born in your game. Did you get a message announcing the birth (followed by the gathering in Village Center)? If so, then another GC won't be born. There is a bug in v1.0 that can cause villagers to disappear under certain circumstances. That bug was the main reason that v1.1 was developed and released. Once a villager has disappeared, there is no way to retrieve them, apart from the normal data backup and recovery techniques available on the Palm platform.

Yes, I received the message that the GC was born and all the villagers celebrated. And yes, I have been experiencing the disappearing acts from the villagers! Sometimes I'll pick one up and set him down and he'll just disappear. Maybe my GC disappeared as well

That's the most likely explanation. Unfortunately, there's no way to get the GC back if s/he has disappeared, short of restoring a backup of the savegame file (if you have one). V1.1 has has fixed all of the major bugs, so if you decide to abandon your current game and start over, I'd recommend downloading and installing it first. You can get the new version from here: http://www.ldw.com/zips/vs1_1.zip
