My fish are dying, found one magic fish, and my cash does not exceed 150 usually. Any general advice on what to start with what to do, all that. How do you get that $6000 that I hear about or more?

There are probably as many different strategies as there are people playing the game, but the most important thing is to make sure that you always have at least several common fish in your tanks (or a batch of common eggs) until you have better Fish Environment, and to care for them so that they stay healthy. Otherwise, you could find yourself with nothing but a bunch of fragile hybrids that won't survive and no money to buy anything with. Look for breeds that do well in the starting tank environment and sell for a reasonable price (at least $20) and keep breeding those fish to make money.

For one guaranteed approach to getting started successfully, you can take a look at this post. It will not be the fastest road to riches, but it will allow you to get a good start in the game. \:\)

This is one tactic I found only recently:-

- Do some cross breeding to find the best breed to mass produce (ie best price ($20 - $35) and most stable health wise. (Ususally a Goldbulb or Leaffish satisfy this search)
- Sell all of your other breeds (except for your magic fish of course).
- Breed 7 of these fish to be your breeding stock.
- Keep these 7 and your magic fish in tank 1, always keeping the 7 pregnant (with each other, not the magic fish).
- When they give birth, impregnate them again and move the babies to the selling tank. USE THE SELLING TANK AS A NURSERY!!
- When the babies mature, sell them.
- keep repeating this process while you get enough funds to do research, buy the next tank etc.
- when you have got better environment, buy some of the rarer eggs, and then start experimenting with your breeding.

NOTES:- 6-7 breeding stock is the perfect number until you have the plant that gives more babies, then it's 5
- keep the babies out of the breeding tank to maximise babies.
- don't cross breed anything with your magic fish until you have better environment, otherwise they will die.
- Unless you are morally against it, kill any diseased fish. Buying cures and slowly using them is expensive and time consuming.

Well...I like what ST suggested. My 2 cents is to get the goldbulb as soon as possible. You can sell them for as much as 50 with little trouble if you want and you can get money for whatever sooner. I would then buy the second tank first then buy the enviroment researches. Ignore anything else. And indeed, unless you have the money to buy cures all the time, dont bother. Course if you want to try and trash as few fish as possible...that wont help there.

Other then that, I agree with ST. When you get as much as possible, try and get the canary firearrow as soon as possible. I sold them for $300 excellent, but you can actually get 375 just fine too. If you cant figure out which to crossbreed, just try the mutating potion (unknown chemical) and you might be so lucky as to get yourself a couple of canary firearrows. You can also use the mutating fish to try and get it if you want but that will take much much more work. Dont bother with groth hormones or advertising or ornaments. those are just a waist of money at first. You can always do that if you want to but thats your choice. As for the growth potion. I would only use it when your sale tank is 100% full and you may need to also buy 2 bottles...but that isnt bad. If you earn $300 per fish even...you only need about 3 bottles which is 1140 altogether. that still gives you a 71860 per each selling of sale fish.

hope this helps.

Alright is there a list of what a goldbub is or a canary firearrow, or a leafish? Can someone refer me to a breeders chart? I mean in the real world we would have it no?

Here is a rather detailed breeder's chart. Chock full of information, I printed it out and am getting to work! God if this was only a real job!

If you check the Guides section below, you'll find posts in the Spoilers thread that contain a breeding chart and a link to a Fish Tycoon breeding database.

I got lucky with one of my early games. I was just trying to cross-breed like crazy while I tried for "stable" fishes as I was researching the advanced fish envirnoments.

I got lucky because I got a pair or orange snoopers. They weren't very stable, but the pair of them kept them alive longer than ususual for a fragile breed (they died as soon as I fed them, but before that I recorded what I needed to recreate them.) I bred more pairs (the Magic Fish of Fertility is your friend...) and kept a pair in each tank.

I then was able to breed the canary fire-arrow while still in Level 2 envirnoment, and then I was able to quickly earn enough to buy the Level 3 research.

Later games I just bred until I got the golden goldbulb and then set of a breeding farm for that to earn money. (Yes, I red the rumors of a better fish to breed... I haven't found any besides that fish of fertility...)
