My tribe has been having a bad time lately, first those pesky ants ate half of my food, followed by the fog sweeping away what was left, between the two, my villagers ran out of things to harvest.

Throughout this time, all but 4 of my villagers have died

I am left with my tribe leader, a 47 year old male, also 3 other male villagers, aged 28, 14 and 11.

With no females on the island what are their chancing of surviving? Is there an event that anyone knows of that washes a female villager onto the island? Or should I just let them relax and die in piece?

There is an Event. A Barrel of Babies Event. But then, you'll have to wait until your children grow up.

Or you can start a new Tribe.

Or do both.

I recently had a tribe of just men. (by the time I noticed all of the children were male all of my females were too old to produce.) When I got down to 8 tribe members I got the canoe from elsewhere. I eventually got down to as low as 2 male members and three of events in a row were canoe events. My next event after that was a barrel of babies. The tribe is now 40 plus strong. It wouldn't be that high normally because I like to keep the tribes around 25. (I hate large tribes.) It wouldn't be that large except I had a male parent. I prefer female parenting skills because I can control the amount of tribe members better.
But in VV2 and VV3, for me anyway, I notice that when the tribe gets low an event occurs where extra members are produced. In VV2, I hit the gong and all of my eligible females are pregnant. I had about 15 tribe members at the time. Good luck with your events.

One more thing, My tribes was more advanced, all puzzles done, and plenty of food. That may have an effect also.

I'm glad to hear that your tribe survived fns! Spike, you could wait for an event that bring newcomers, but I have a tribe of three old males and two women that are too old to breed. I've been waiting for events for quite sometime and I didn't get any, I know you must have worked hard on this tribe but I would say the best thing to do is start a new one.

My tribe was really low on food once so I paused it and every twenty four hours I <spoiler> got the chief to make magic food. The 24 hours actually counts even if it's paused!

Then you can wait for Island events, but it may take a few weeks!

Island Events will not occur if the game is kept paused.

There is a sort of exploit for island events though. If you back up your savegames before opening your tribe, then if the event is not the kind you need, you can quit, reload the saves from backup, and reload the game for a new event. Saves for VV3 are located in My Documents>LDW>Virtual Villagers - the Secret City.

ooo, I hope things work out for your tribe....I had a tribal tradgedy but eventual comeback once. Long story short I had one male villager for many, many village years. I was pretty desparate but eventually....a barrel of babies came along. I still have the tribe running.

Question: what's the difference between an exploit and a cheat?

A narrow, but arguable difference. Exploits are ways of using the game's own behavior (usually unintended behavior and glitches) to gain an advantage that the developers did not intend. Speed kissing and getting multiple collectibles through pausing are examples of exploits. (They are an exploitation of glitches to get what was probably not intended that we have - easily gained skill, more tech points, whatever)

The definition has come to include ways of using mods or <cough> inventive programming, to change the properties of the game. As an example, think of challenging a VV player to a collectible hunt, only you're using mods that make the trees, villagers, and statue translucent, and the collectibles and Collectible-sparkles bright, solid colors, easy to find. While it doesn't perfectly fit the definition I posted earlier, such things have come to be defined as exploits in many multiplayer and massively multiplayer games.

The most important distinction though, is that exploits have always been posted publicly here without attention from the ops, including the one I just posted.
