I generally consider gong events to be 'events,' though they are a separate class of events from the usual 24-hour events.

I'm not sure what this refers to. The last reference Arnie makes to events - which was in March, mind you - He says that in a small tribe, a few extra villagers might tip them into starvation. He seems to be agreeing with you.

As for the parrot, I don't see him mention that at all. If this is about tech points, the parrot is not the only thing that takes tech points. I've had events totally wipe me out before, right down to zero no matter where I'm at. As Arnie says, this isn't a big deal in a complete village - you don't have anything to spend them on, and tons of scientists to make more. In the early game, when you're struggling to get fishing before you starve, lost tech points can kill you.
