Two days in a row the chief has pointed out collectibles but when I looked none were in sight. What am I doing wrong? How exactly does he point them out?

First, there are tons of rainbows over his head and he moves in several directions, until finally he stops. When he stops you go looking in the direction he stopped in. \:\) But hurry before it poofs away.

That's not how it works. The chief does not point in the direction that the collectible can be found. The collectible can be in any area of the map where collectibles normally appear. A rare collectible will always appear somewhere, but it can be hard to see if it's behind villagers (if you have a large tribe), trees or other objects. However, if you are in the habit of pausing the game to help find and gather collectibles, you may prevent one from appearing.

1. Get the chief to make a lecture
2. Quickly put the chief on the mountain to make a rare collectible appear
3. Pause the game
4. Look for the collectible. Note that coral is found by the beach, tablets near the rubble, turtle shells by the waterfall and feathers anywhere! I find it easier to quickly check the three first spots to make sure it's not a feather
5. Get a kid to pick it up
(The lecture is made so that any villagers standing on collectibles will get off them and go to the ampitheatre.)

The collectible may take a minute or two to appear. In addition, Collectibles do not appear or dissapear while the game is paused.

Therefore, if you start an event that causes a collectible to appear, and the game is paused when it's supposed to appear . . . you're short. You don't get a collectible. No soup for you.

The moral of this story grasshoppah, is that chief-collectibles and pausing do not mix well.

I don't pause the game. I grab a kid and just start looking. Twice in a row there simply has not been a collictable. Very frustrating.

The collectibles may be behind trees or the statue, or other objects, as well as hidden under the villagers themselves. Corals are particularly difficult, as there are already sparkles in the ocean, and the beach is popular with children. Turtle shells near the waterfall are difficult as well, when there are a lot of people washing or doing laundry or whatever.

If this is the case, sparkles are your only clue, and they can be hard to see when there's lots of motion around them.

And sparkles don't appear when the game is paused ...

The issue I'm referring to is chief-collectibles not appearing while the game is NOT paused, which, if I trust that nothing actually appeared, is a glitch. However, there are many circumstances that make it easy to miss a collectible, and I'm trying to keep that in mind while responding. \:\)

I've had things appear in the corner of a hut, so I can't see them, just the sparkles... so it could be there too

I have a question now. I see all sorts of stuff when the chief is lecturing - but I can't pick anything up. Well the kids cant. Is that normal?

The chief's lecture is different from when the chief points out a collectible. While he/she is lecturing, a collectible may appear at random. Though IF one appears it isn't any specific collectible type (such as a rare item when the chief points one out). What kind of items are you trying to pick up SarasWhimsy? smile

I guess then that maybe I've never seen a chief point out a collectible. When/How does this happen?

I'll hide your answer in a spoiler tag so I don't ruin it for anyone smile

To be able to have your chief point out a collectible, you need to have Level 3 Leadership Technology.

After you have this technology, you need to drag your chief on the cliff's edge which is on top of the path to the door. Your chief should then point out a rare collectible! Or in other words, a rare collectible appears somewhere random.

This, as any other of the chief's powers, can only be performed once a day.

Good luck!

What I always do is, when the chief points the collectible, I start moving up and down the island to find the collectibles.

I don't get the child to move cause it seems he or she will block my sight. smile

Is the rare collectible always one you still need? Or might it be a duplicate?

Any more opinions now that it is 2010 in whether pausing works well for this? Also- is it sometimes a minute or two ? Does the chief leave before the collectible appears? I have tried three times but so far no luck

My puzzles are all solved and other than my plan to have everyone dressed in black and white, black, white, or gray and then two or three in red I am about ready to bid my villagers adieu but need a few collectibles.

Thanks in advance for your help!
