It has been a long time since my last chief died. for some reason I cannot get a new one. Anyone know why this might be??? I am pretty far along in the game and I need a chief for the statue puzzle. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you tried everyone? Including the kids?

Do you have nursing mothers? If so, they will have to put the baby down before they will try on the robe.

As mentioned, the usual cause is that a nursing mother or her child is the new chief. There is also a glitch that can result in there really being no chief - restarting the game, or switching tribes, has been known to fix this.

Put the game on pause and put ALL your villagers on the robe. When you unpause the game, they'll all try it, and if one of them fits there you go. If none of them fit, try the nursing mothers and their children.

I have also found that sometimes quitting the game then coming back to it, someone who I already tried tries it again and this time it fits!

Give it a go and eventually someone will want the job!

I'd like to say that all your villagers are too smart to take the job! Someone eventually will take it however. As previously mentioned, when this happens to me I try switching tribes, then come back and start with my oldest villager working my way down till someone is chief.
I've never tried putting all the villagers on the robe at once, but that sounds like an interesting solution. I may do that next time my chief goes to visit the ancestors. Could be a real time saver.

I'll generally use the "pause and pile everyone on the podium and then let them fight it out" method if I've less than about 30 villagers. If I've more I'll take each one to the podium individually then move to the next one using the details screen. That way I make sure I don't leave anyone out. I actually find it quite relaxing to scroll through the villagers in this way, but perhaps I'm weird.

I'm weird like that, too, Arnie. It gives me a chance to work with each villager individually and remind myself of who they are. When you have 90+ villagers, you tend to ignore the individuals, and the process of finding a new chief restores the focus to the individuals in the tribe (if only for a short time).
