You're doing just fine! You should be able to keep going and do well, as long as you're careful with the choices that you make.

Research goes very slowly in the beginning (and you're still closer to the beginning than the end)! For now, just concentrate on keeping your villagers healthy and fed, and the research points will start to build. I would not make any new villagers yet, though, since you wouldn't want to get in a situation where the villagers are eating more food than can be produced by the farm. I highly recommend level 3 of Harvesting as your next tech purchase, which will ease your food worries tremendously.

The stage of the game that you're in is probably the biggest test of patience. You've grown the tribe, but none of them is experienced enough yet to produce a lot of research points. As your scientists gain skill, they will start to produce more and more research points. And, later, when you have improved your Village Tech in Science, the points will grow even faster.
