It's not something they learn. Watch the response you get when you drop them in the water; "Ahhh, sharks!" You have to do something about the sharks. Check the guides forum, if you're looking for spoilers.

Keep in mind that the factions are just like the research topics; puzzle completion can hinge on your progress in a faction. You aren't doing yourself a favor by ignoring the factions to focus on the techs.

As soon as you don't chose a faction, you can't have an illimitate source of food! \:\/
And remember the 1st level you buy is for choosing the Faction and after you'll have to (spoiler)buy the 2nd level for being able to get fishing(end of spoiler)

do you have a villager carrying a baby? It could be one of them (the mom or the baby! ;\) )

If you're really critical, you can lock down your game; pause it, and every 24 hours unpause to have the chief create magic food. Also, if it starts raining, mushroom-hunt like MAD.

Nursing mothers cannot try the robe on. The point is, that your villager may be nursing, and because of that, cannot wear the robe.

Wait for nursing mothers to put the kids down, then have them try the robe on (and the kids) afterwards.

I don't really like the rule that mothers cannot put the robe on. Hope they change that in the 4th Virtual Villagers/

SPOILER BELOW

Any faction will get you unlimited food (fishing) you just have to learn the right potion. You will need level two magic/nature and level three alchemy. \:\) also, if you choose the nature faction, it will be easier to get food before you are able to fish.

No spoiler tags needed, remember; it's tagged in the topic.

But if you choose the magic faction, it's much easier to get the research points needed to get fishing, as well as to get the grove, which gives you breathing room to get those tech points.

I've played both, and I find magic faction much easier for some reason; many fewer food crunches.

Remember, there is absolutely nothing that requires L3 alchemy. Nothing at all, not one puzzle, not one accomplishment. Many potions DO like to blow up, the shark potion being one of them, but just try again with a healthy villager. If you have no healthy villagers, make some with - was it cactus-cactus-lotus? Or was it Orchid? (I just checked. Cactus-cactus-Lotus.)

There is nothing that will absolutely cause an explosion; it is random chance only. All alchemy does is lower the percentage chance that an explosion will occur.
