what software are you using to edit the images? please let me know. when i use photoshop, it makes the bg a solid colour, instead of using it clear. for now, i', using an app that came with an hp printer, but i can only saturate the entire object....can't modify any specific details.

any suggestions?

Photoshop should do just fine; opening a PNG it should preserve the transparency; transparent areas should look like a white-and-grey chekerboard pattern. Saving a PNG should not change that.
