Hi! I recently purchased the windows version of this game. The only thing I can't figure out is how to "save" the game. Everytime we quit and come back, it's all new again.

Since game time is supposed to continue to elapse, even when the computer is off, there must be some way to save the game data. I just can't figure it out. Thanks!

The game is designed to auto-save every 30 minutes, as well as to save every time you exit the game. How are you closing the game? The "Exit" function on the main menu?

We've had the game up for a couple of hours, and did use the Exit function on the main menu. When I start it again and press play, it asks for a nickname and everything starts from the beginning...

I haven't seen that happen before. Did you change the default location when you installed the game? Try using Windows explorer to search your system for a file named FishSaveGame1.pts (you can have up to 5 simultaneous games, each with their own savegame file, numbered 1-5). Please report if you find no savegame file anywhere on your hard drive, because that would clearly be a malfunction. If you find a savegame file, is it in the same location where Fish Tycoon is installed?

Thanks for the help. I didn't realize it would try to save the game in the install folder (I'm so used to having games and applications save stuff in user-specific "application data" folder under XP). The user (my daughter) didn't have sufficient modify writes to the install folder.

Once I fixed that, the game saves properly.

Note that it did not complain when it couldn't create the save game file, it just silently exited without saving. I wouldn't call it a bug, but if the game isn't going to use the standardized area for saving this stuff that XP provides, maybe it should be more verbose about failures...?

Thanks again.

Good point! The game should probably issue a message if it cannot write the savegame file(s).
