I love Fish Tycoon for Windows but am experiencing the following problem (and wonder if anyone else is):
Very often, I lose power/control of my mouse. As a result, the mouse won't travel to the bottom or top of the screen. So if, for example I am selling fish, I can’t use the mouse to click on "Done" to the fish tank. Instead I have to use my keyboard and hit "Esc" which takes me to menu and then I click into “Play.” Similarly, after examining the species of a fish, my mouse won't "move" down to "Done." So, I use my keyboard and hit "Enter." Or, I won't be able to drag a fish to the bottom of the screen to sell, etc. Also, sometimes all power to do anything stops and the fish cease to move. Then power kicks in and out, sort of in “jerks.” I have no viruses (I have Norton AntiVirus 2006 Upgrade and anti-spyware software); I have Dell desktop, Windows XP Home Edition and a lot of available memory. Anyone have any ideas of how to fix it? I would appreciate any suggestions/cures. Otherwise, I love it. Thanks.

It could be one of 2 things. If it stubbornly and consistantly refuses to go down to the 'done' button, I wonder if you are playing in windowed or fullscreen mode? You might try switching modes and see if that fixes it.

If the mouse is 'jerky' it could be because another application(s) is running in the background on your computer. Fish Tycoon is very very polite with other applications and will not interfere with their operation, often at the expense of Fish Tycoon's smoothness. On my computer, if my anti-virus is scanning or too many other apps are running I see the 'jerkiness'.

I do find it uses a good bit of ram so I ctrl-alt-delete and turn off every unnecessary thing I have running in the background and then it's smooth and nice. Also mine runs best in the smaller window. I have 256 ram.

Your suggestions, yours and Angeltalena's were very helpful. I find that if I temporarily disable my auto-protect Norton AntiVirus, Fish Tycoon runs more smoothly, - without the jerks and freezes. It also helps when I play it on the smaller screen (though I prefer the larger). Thanks alot. Love it.

I have the same problem. What I do is ALT TAB back to desktop then click on minimised Fish Tycoon tab at bottom of screen. It takes you back into the game with no more probs.

Hi, I reported the same bug to your site and was given a link to this thread. I have the same problem now occuring with mouse control. I can usually "ctrl alt del" and keep trying to position my mouse at the bottom of the screen when the game comes up and still play the game, but this is annoying. Like the above poster, I have plenty of RAM to play all other games.

In fact this game was playing fine for a week and then I put it on STOP during he holidays and restarted the game a few days ago and now have this bug occuring that was not occuring before.

In addition I have another new bug that I have fish in the store on one ID that will not sell, no matter how long the fish store is open. Yes, Iv bought everything there is to buy and left the game open to see if an hour would work, but the 4 fish are stuck in the store unsold.

I love the game also. I'm up to #62 on money from fish sales and only played a little over a week and stopping the game at night.

Im just letting you'all know that the game has a few bugs. The mouse problem is especially annoying and I do not have any other games with such problems. My nvidia video card was updated after the last 10/20/05 nvidia update etc. XP Home, 512 RAM, nothing running in the background like a scan as you suggested.

Hi, I tried the Alt + Tab and it worked, still a pain to have to keep doing that, thanks. I finally got the unsold fish out of the sale tank as well, somehow one kind was priced too high.

I have another question though. Does anyone know how to move things into the sale tank? Or do you have to be in the sale tank when you buy them in the first place? Can I get rid of them in one tank and rebuy them so they are now in the sale tank.

Nevermind, about how to move things from one tank to another, found it by myself. Just put them into the other tank window where you want them Move the scuba guy to the sales tank....now about that mouse problem. Up to #58 in $ sales meanwhile...selling a bit while Im figuring out this mouse problem

It's very easy to move things from one tank to another, provided that you're trying to move tank ornaments or the seahorse (you can't move the things that install into all three tanks). To move things from tank to tank, just grab the object (or seahorse) and drag it to the tab for the 'target' tank until you see the tab light up. Then release it, and it will move to the new tank. If you switch tanks to the new tank after you let go, you can see the object drop into the tank.

Sometimes it doesn't work the first try, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too difficult to move things between your tanks.

The mouse problem isn't really a problem with the mouse. Fish Tycoon is designed to give priority to any other application that's running, whether it's in foreground or background mode - even system processes. So the 'jerkiness' that you sometimes see is not a bug in the program, but a result of Fish Tycoon yielding priority to another application or process. It was an implementation decision that was made in order to keep Fish Tycoon from affecting system and other application performance, and to allow people to run FT as more or less a 'background' application (since its real-time design doesn't require constant attention to make progress in the game).

I was wondering if anyone knows a solution to my problem with Fish Tycoon. When I open the game, the screen immediately goes to "Could not open display" and gives me an error code. I'm not real sure what to do with this? Any suggestions?

I assume that you've just installed it and can't get it to run. What error message are you getting? What version of Windows are you running (Windows 98, 2000, XP)? How much memory does your PC have, and what version of DirectX are you running? Sorry for all the questions, but it's necessary - there are just too many different kinds of systems out there. I may have more questions, depending on what you tell me.
