Alchemy research level 3 is highly recommended to minimize lab accidents.

Potions with Pitcher plant requires at least level 2 Nature research.

Can I assume we substitute the Golden Berries for the Pitcher Plant and get the same results? I am running villages for both Nature and Magic.

No. Pitcher plant can only be used for pitcher plant potions, and berries for berry potions.

Certain potions have recipes that are identical for both factions, but they are not straightforward substitutions. The guide has many good, complete lists; try this list, it's one of my favorites. Very complete, faction-potions kept separate, and easy to navigate.
