For those of you who have been running the game for a really long time, you may wonder if the Golden Child is immortal. It's not so - the Golden Child is not immortal, just very long lived.

I ran the game for so long (don't have my latest stats) that sadly, my Golden Child died. So, no more group dances for me!

Now I've got a new Palm - a Palm TX, so I've just started the game again. There will be group parties again!

It's likely that your Golden Child was killed by illness. He is supposed to be invincible, but there are rare circumstances where he will fall ill. Since his status always says "Golden Child" (preempting the display of any other status), the only indication of a problem is declining health. If you ever see your GC's health declining, it would be prudent to try to heal him.

My golden child kicked the bucket, and before he moved the boulder. Can another one be born or is it a one time only thing?

The birth of the Golden Child is a one-time event. I assume that you're still using StyleTap to run Village Sim, and I'm not sure how it handles the savegame file backup to your PC. Hopefully, there's a backup that you can load (and, if you're successful in getting to a point before your GC died, you might try healing him/her, just in case).
