my rules:

1a. (it depends on the village) each male can have, max, 2 wives (this depends on the woman/man ratio, only really applies to first-generation of villagers). no man will have a parent, child, or direct, full sister as his wife, or vise-versa. crimes of event-passion are to be...forgiven.
1b. (this applies to non-1a villages) Only one man has children, until he dies, at which point, the position of child-having male will be given to a favorite.

2. chief performs duties once per day, directs work the rest of the time.

3. Only elderly people are allowed to wander around and goof off. Everyone else must earn their time off when they are young by working constantly.

I don't have that many rules ^^...but then again, I have a lot of standards a village has to meet before I'll decide not to re-start it.
