What are your village rules? Mine are:
NO INBREEDING,
NO THINKING,
NO RELAXING,
ALWAYS BE IN A FAMILY,
NEVER LEAVE THE VILLAGE,
WOMEN UNDER 20 OR OVER 49 MUST NOT HAVE CHILDREN,
YOU MUST WORK IF YOUR OVER 14,
HAVE FUN AS A CHILD,WORK LIKE A SLAVE AS AN ADULT.

I can't aviod inbreeding because I have so many villagers, I don't remember who their parents are/were, so it's not incommon that a brother and a sister could have a baby.

You start out with only four breedable villagers; and only one's a woman. If you don't have kids right away, you only have two mothers.

The first generation will have to breed between two families; they'll quickly become two branches of one family. Preventing inbreeding is nigh-impossible, even if you don't count cousins, requiring careful charting and record-keeping of familial ties.

Preventing children from going after their parents is all I would ever hope for, especially with them going off to get busy while the game is off; and since I tend to breed my villagers for a certain hair type, (different for each tribe,) I tend to ignore the issue altogether.

My Rules:

* No close inbreeding (sister/brother, parent/child, grandparent/grandchild).
* Monogamy whenever possible.
* No killing villagers on purpose, even the lazy ones.
* Retirement at around age 65 (I uncheck skills choice).
* Chief teaches once a day.
* As many villagers as possible will learn new skills & try to get to elder status.
* Begin doctors when they're still kids

my rules:

1a. (it depends on the village) each male can have, max, 2 wives (this depends on the woman/man ratio, only really applies to first-generation of villagers). no man will have a parent, child, or direct, full sister as his wife, or vise-versa. crimes of event-passion are to be...forgiven.
1b. (this applies to non-1a villages) Only one man has children, until he dies, at which point, the position of child-having male will be given to a favorite.

2. chief performs duties once per day, directs work the rest of the time.

3. Only elderly people are allowed to wander around and goof off. Everyone else must earn their time off when they are young by working constantly.

I don't have that many rules ^^...but then again, I have a lot of standards a village has to meet before I'll decide not to re-start it.

One of my strict rules is that all females who have just put down their child for the first time, get some time to relax in the bath, before they return to work.

All doctors, master or otherwise must stay clean, and bathe at least once per day. They may do laundry once a day also..none of this doing laundry all day to get out of study.

Someone tells the children a story at least once per day...doesn't matter who.

Children go to at least one lecture a day, the one for them. They may attend adult lectures if they wish.

Children will spend some time every day gathering herbs for potions.

That's it for my rules. I'm rather easy on my villagers.

Oh, and one thing more...no wandering off to look at the fishies until you're retired at age 67.

Rules of Isola.

1. When you turn 14 you must work.
2. Everyone will help build huts to help increase population. Refusal to do so will ban you from breeding.
3. Every female will have a child at age 18. Unless rule 2 is broken.
4. If you become weakened by a potion, you must return to healthy become working again.
5. All herbs are to be collected by children
6. When villager reaches Elderly, they are free to either work or roam around village all day.
7. Chief is responsible for education of children and keeping fire going.
8. When it rains, you are not allowed to stand under trees but must go inside a hut or stand in Research/Alchemy Lab.

I actually have one more rule...

If you have been ill, and been healed by a doctor, you must take some time in the bath to recuperate. It doesn't matter what age. The bath is considered theraputic in our village, so it's not to be lazed about in.

I have found out that allowing my villagers a little relaxation time, or meditation time in the burial ground makes them more willing to return to what they have been doing. I'm just around to help them out, because, as you know, they can do perfectly well without us! ;\)
