I was looking for ways to keep track of my villagers in order to minimize [censored], and I found this free family tree creator. It's really simple and very useful. Enjoy!

Hello! I actually started using this for my new village a few days ago, and it's making me a bit obsessive. Better than last summer, when I did one by hand for my VV2 village. I don't really mind about the thing I think was censored, but it has inspired me to have an experiment in my new village for law-abiding (I'm in VA, so it will be VA law) mating, LOL, to see if it really is possible.

I used my first chief, Chief Adrian, for the date of birth aspect, since he was the oldest: His birth was year 0, and everyone elses was relative to that (ie, he was 24 when the village began, so the 21 year old was born in year 3). Chief Adrian years! :). The Family Tree software keeps warning me about the very old age of my people :P.

Best Wishes,

Bella

I have to add...I just looked up the law here, and it allows cousins to marry - even first cousins! Eew. :oNot that I'm judging, cough. Still though. Eew.

So I will be using my own law: only 3rd cousins or further removed allowed, no other type of blood relatives for my experimental village.

the law allows cousins cause the gene pool is so diversified now.

Still seems too closely related but *shrug* to each his/her own.

I wanted to say Thank You for posting this free family tree creator. It has renewed my interest in VV3. I had a tribe of 17 villagers on pause for a month now and was able to construct family trees and marriages for the tribe. I wish VV had built-in family trees.

Um . . . I don't think that's it. The diversity of your genes doesn't matter much; only the possible diversity between your genes and your cousin's genes. Your cousin is still a parent's sibling's offspring; they are no further from you genetically than they would have been 100 years ago.

The real reason, I think, is decaying morality. Morality has been changing in recent decades, into something a person 100 years ago would have been horrified at. This is probably a more likely reason why many things that would have been out of the question twenty or fifty years ago are not only legal, but considered morally defensible these days.

That being said . . . . yuck.

I have a similiar family tree I recieved from Ancestry.Com It make is easy to keep up with who is marrying who. And while I would to see the built-in family tree, it might be a computer profram problem. But the Free Family Tree Creator does help greatly.

I actually thought the law was old, not new. The eew for me comes from the notion of marrying any of my cousins...I am not even attracted to men who look anything like me or my family whatsoever (which resulted in me having a son who people have implied was adopted).

A hundred years ago in the United States, we didn't have national women's suffrage, child labor laws, and, if you go back not much further, we have legal slavery and all sorts of other unpleasant things. People tend to romanticize the "good ole days", but the cold hard truth is right there in the history books. I am studying American History in college right now, and I cry every single chapter because of the horrific things people did and the terrible conditions in which people lived. Similar things still go on today, but in much smaller numbers - and it is no longer acceptable. We still have a long way to go before we reach an ideal society and government, but I sincerely hope and pray we do not return to the "morality" of the past.

Just my two cents.

Bellanca, when I speak of a decay of morality, I'm speaking mostly of the last hundred years. Morality hasn't ALWAYS been decaying, and was mostly dependent on who conquered who, through most of history.

I think marrying FIRST cousins is rather unusual, legally speaking; marrying second cousins and beyond has only very rarely been illegal, if I'm not mistaken. Forgive me, though, for not having researched any facts on this one; I really don't care very much.

I had never even given considered parentage with my villagers before I saw threads about it here. Besides, in real life unless blood tests are taken, you would never know you were related to someone if they had been adopted right after birth and never told of their real parentage.
