i think i have concocted 50 potions but the award says i have not! will someone please tell me how this works

You have to make sure to successfully redo any potions that fail, or they don't count.

Yeah. On the second Tribe I started after I won the first one, I made sure that I wrote down every receipe on a piece of paper. Ex. Lotus, lotus, lotus. That way I know if I've ever done it and how many I have completed. Still need to get the Potion award on both my tribes, but I've been too lazy lately and had way too many villagers that hate running, which means they are veeeeerrrryyyy ssssllllooooowwwww to do anything, esp. get ingredients!

I use kids to gather the herbs - they're typically fast.

Barbara's answer is correct. You have to redo any that have failed.

I would also encourage you to redo any potions that did not make sense at the time you made them. The potion recipes I am talking about may have taken only 1 or 2 ingredients to complete. I assumed I knew what the completed potion was and counted it as complete when in reality I did not know for sure what was actually in the pot.

The Alchemy R Us Award can be completed. It just takes accurate record keeping and perseverance. You probably have documented your "recipes". If you have not kept records, it would be very difficult to know which recipe hadn't been completed and needs to be "redone". You might have to start over and systematically redo each recipe, which I did in one of my games and was thrilled when the award actually showed up.

Meaning, 50 different kinds of potions/recipes.
Think of it like making 50 different types of desserts. Not ONE type of dessert 50 times.

For goodnes sakes, man, you didn't even have to read the last thread; the most recent post (at the time of your posting) contained the answer, and you don't even have to go to a second page to view it.

This is why we have 60-post threads about simple questions; the same question is asked over and over, and the same answer given over and over, until a simple question like "How do I keep the shark potion from exploding" turns into a 60-post thread.

Yes, yes, but it's the fifth post in the thread. There's no possible way that it could not be on the single page of the thread when he opened it. In addition, it was the most recent post. Most people at LEAST read the first and last post, even if they don't read the entire thread, or the entire last page.

do bad potions count?

If by "bad" you mean the ones that are harmful to villagers, yes they count. If you mean "bad," such as those that exploded or didn't work, no they don't count.

I would think so, if by bad you mean potions with ill effects. Potions that explode, as mentioned, need to be redone, but a potion is a potion.

It doesn't matter in which order you use the herbs. For example, Lotus, Cactus, Rose is the same as Rose, Lotus, Cactus and will count only once.

"all the cominations for the same potion" [emphasis added] counts as one potion, regardless of which order you collect/use the herbs. For example Rose, Rose, Lotus is the same potion as Rose, Lotus, Rose and will count only as one potion toward the required 50.

Different potions each count as a potion, as long as the herbs that you use are different from other potions that you've made. For example, Rose, Rose, Lotus is a different potion from Rose, Lotus, Lotus.

I think what Xilo means is if you have two recipes that make stinky breath, do they count as two separate potions.

Xilo, yes they do count as separate potions.
For example lets say you use rose, rose, rose and that made a dance potion, and then you made a recipe that was orchard, orchard, lotus which also was a dance recipe. These two recipes make up different potions that react similiary.

(Note: These are not the actual recipes for dancing. I just made this up to help explain something.)

Yes, they would count as two recipes. It is the combination of herbs that determines the recipe and not the effect - potion properties. EM
