I know that tech points are earned by villagers working in the lab, but are doctors studying in the medical area also earning tech points included in the overall count?

What about farmers and builders?

Each skill produces its own "output" - researchers produce tech points (and gain skill), doctors gain skill and heal villagers, farmers produce food (and gain skill), builders complete building projects (and gain skill), and parents tell stories and produce children (and gain skill).
