I was just wondering if anyone has posted what the different head types are that are available in VV3? I tried to look them up in my LDW files, but couldn't find them or didn't know which program to use to open them. If no one has done this, perhaps someone who has opened their file could take a screenshot and post it? Please?!

Try look in the folder C:\program files\virtual villagers-secret city\images (which is the default folder if you didn't install the game someplace else). I'd be glad to post them if you can't find, but in that case, please put a spoiler alert in the title. Not everyone might want to see them (I choosed not to look at the images until I experimented quite a lot).

Thasnk you so, so much! I've just had a great time looking through all the images and seeing which people types haven't turned up yet in my villages. Also, being able to see all the outfits in detail. I was wondering about the images labeled Story 3, which seem to be about the chief and the princess. Was there supposed to be a video when I got the secret room open? I didn't see one - tried clicking on different portions of the room, etc. Anybody able to help with this?

I numbered the heads like Complexity did in the VV2 Genetics Thread http://www.ldwforums.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/169595/page/0/fpart/1

Is anyone experimenting with genetics in VV3? Is it the same as VV2?

Genetics does, indeed, seem to follow the same rules. The discussion on VV2 genetics has expanded in scope to include VV3 as well.

Thanks for the downloads on Page 1.
By the way the download on this page is not opening for me.

Only negative thing for me as a Mac user we do not get the files to open to look at these things. Or make pretty new huts!!

I checked out Amee's PDF attachment, and it's not on our server, which is why you're getting the error. Why it's not on the server, I can't say for sure.

MickyTeddy, you can make and use image mods for the Mac version of VV3. The instructions for installing a mod are here. Once you've opened the Images folder, you can access and edit any of the images (just make sure you back them up first, in case you make a mistake). \:\)

Amee, our server has a 2MB limit on file size, and the PDF is 2.5MB, which is why your upload is failing. If you could reduce the size of the document to less than 2MB, it would work.

Thanks for sorting that download for me. The .png's were so small I kept having to increase the size to work out who was who.

You should be able to 'zoom', without having to actually enlarge the image. The windows picture and fax viewer, which is the default for opening most images, (urg,) should zoom just fine, as should paint, if you need to use that.

Having completed, several times VV# [except for those goofy, frustrating collectibles] playing with the 'genetics' aspect is the fun part of the game for me. However, unless you are lucky enough to start out with a couple of 30's or 1/2's, those are by far the hardest head types to produce [or breed }.
It might be fun to start a thread re our favorite genetic factored villages. Know that I am always trying for about 6 specific gals...kinda have to take the guys as they come. Hardly ever have to deal with the redheads anymore, tho should probably do a tribe of just those, I guess. Most recent endeavor was developing [or that breeding bit again] brunettes from a totally blond group.....well, except for one chestnut haired guy. One day 2 blondes had a lovely #7 black haired girl. What to do? Chestnut hair came into play and was a great success....now have a smaller group of brunettes amongst my blondes. \:\)

example:

12m+13f=25
25/2=12.5

chances:

10 11 12 13 14 15

try to use this for example. the further you go away from the bold numbers, the smaller the chance is to get that number. \:\)

I think the other genetics thread examines the numbers quite thoroughly, Manny. Since there aren't any major observable changes in VV3 to the methods the game uses in selecting head types, I think we can safely leave the math in the VV3 threads.

I also may be mistaken, but Gmom seems to have a grasp of the genetics already; she's correct that blonds are among the hardest to breed, along with the black-haired villagers. If you let a blond- or black-haired tribe to itself, they generally seem to creep back towards brunettes or redheads. She also has an obvious grasp of the system used for numbering the head types, so I'm sure we don't have to re-explain all this here.

A curtsey of thanks, Lurkily. To clarify, I didn't bother to identify my redhaired guy, because he was the lowest numbered guy in the tribe. And my #7 girl was the result of 27 to 27. I love the random factor!

And a sweeping bow of "You're-welcome" to you. Do I get a cookie?

The random factor does make things interesting; watching the makeup of your tribe swing back and forth as one blond gets dropped in among the black-haired folk can be interesting. \:\)

yes, Gmomluvsvv is right. there is a chance that there can be a villager with a number outside the range. but, however, i dislike the random factor. sorry if mean. \:\(

I like the random factor; it makes it far easier to breed out of a slump of brunettes if the occasional blond or redhead is born; it greatly assists breeding out of a single-hair-color village.

i mean i only like random factors if i get a blonde or brunettes. not if i get a redhead, a dark-brown haired or a light-brown head.

Amee, thanks for the pics of head types, it answered a question of mine...I just had a villager with a type 7 head (male)...but do you know if that is a birthmark or tribal paint??

Since it's on both sides and identical, it's probably not a birthmark.

I have an entire village that is primarily red and purple haired. I have a few spattering of a light brownish color, and finally have a black haired guy.

How do I move this around to get something other than reds?

If you look at the chart, you need to match up the lower numbered red females with the lower numbered red males, and the match the same with the highest numbers. The lower number matches will eventually give you some light browns (numbers just before reds) and the higher number matches will eventually give you some blondes. smile

You can keep trying to match up lower and lower, higher and higher, until you have a full color range again. smile

Plus, while you are matching up the couples, you may get a surprise random haired child. grin

Right now I have only heads 15-22 females, and heads 17-23 on male, although I have two odd males who just showed up, two number 8's. I have only one 23, and I'm using him and one of the 8's for breeding. Will this bring some brunette's , blondes, or darker haired?

You will get approximately the average of the two numbers you use. So you're better off to use a 15 and an 8 if you want a darker head kid.

15+8= 23, then 23/2= 11.5, so you will probably get a 10, 11, 12 or 13.
But if you use 23+8= 31, then 31/2= 15.5, so you'll probably end up with 14, 15, 16, or 17.

Sometimes it takes a few generations to get all the way to a varied tribe again. Just keep making matches until you're there! laugh
