Keeping the same villagers at the research table will help speed things up. As your scientists gain experience and become masters, they will produce tech points more quickly. Another good way to increase tech points is to grow your population and put the new villagers to work at the research table as soon as they're 14. Purchasing Level 2 and Level 3 of Science also increases the number of points that each villager produces at the research table. Other than that, only time will increase the research points. Just like real life, these things take time! There are a few random events and puzzles that give you bonus tech points, but I wouldn't count on them!

If you have the ability to leave the game running on AC power overnight, that will speed up research, too. The villagers are more productive when the game is actually running than they are when it's turned off.
