I have another "problem" with the game. I have all the puzzles solved except the last 2 and I am waiting for the fire to die or get to the point of me being able to put it out. I have had the game running 4 days, which is over the time needed per the guide, but no sparkle or anyone being able to put out the fire with water from the waterfall. If anyone can help me with this one, please let me know. I have just downloaded the newest version, had the 003 version, so hopefully this will help me with that.

i don't think you can put out the fire, just let it burn out on its own.
on my first successful village i didn't know how to retrieve the gem and restarted my fire.
then it took 6 days to reappear.

The puzzle has two ways to solve it. I prefer putting the fire out - it's more satisfying. The advice in the guide assumes that you've kept your fire going. If you've let it burn out for more that a few hours at a time, it will take longer. There is nothing wrong with that puzzle in your game (although the latest version is 1.00.04 - see Arthur's post), you just need to be patient and keep a nice fire burning.

I have not let it burn out at all, I keep it going and have for 5 days, which is longer than the guide says I need to. When I try to put out the fire, it tells me that the villager is getting a drink, so I guess the fire has not burned long enough. I have just downloaded the newer version, so I do hope this helps. I need that and then I can finish the game.

I have let my fire go out on a couple of occasions and cannot see anything sparkling in it. When I try to put my villagers by the waterfall, they drink. I am loathe to relight and try again because it hasn't worked for me and takes a minimum of 8 hours. PLEASE help. I've tried masters, chief. Is it just a glitch or is there more to this? Thanks!

The fire must burn for a total of at least 60 hours. If you let it go out repeatedly trying to get the ash key, you can actually make it take longer than that. Also, repeatedly pausing and changing the game speed can affect how long it takes. Try adding some wood to the fire several times to see if that helps.

Yikes! I have my game set at fast, though I've paused a time or two. I awoke one morning to find that it had 49 hours to burn on fast setting and I hadn't added wood. One of my sneaky little villagers did it in the night. That's one reason I am in a panic now. I don't want another 49 hour fire.

You can put out the fire (at the right time, of course), and that's my favorite way to solve the puzzle. It's a cool thing to see. I don't think finding the key waiting for you when you turn on the game is nearly as much fun.

Seemed to take forever... and was never able to get people to start collecting water so they could put the fire out. However, was just rewarded today as my fire died out.

Funny little tidbit... as I was trying to cool it down, noticed that nursing mothers could be used. As if she wasn't already going through enough, a mother of triplets bravely carried 3 pans of water to cool off the diamond!
