Yea there is. This is not spoiler tagged so I can't go into much detail. You can pause your game again and just turn it back on every 24 hours. That is one option. Read what the question mark says by the Leadership Technologies. Don't forget that you can pick mushrooms. They show up even if your game is on pause.
