you have to buy the second thing in restoration and restore the lift (which will take three master builders I think) and then when it rains you put someone on the lift and then the rain will fill the one end of the lift and raise your villager up to the tree and it will knock down a fruit which you can plant to make more trees. You can only have three trees though and they take a while to mature.
