I accidentally left my village running overnight and returned to find one 7 year old boy near death. After a lot of attention I am happy to report he is now 21 and a master farmer, builder and researcher. Is there any chance that this game might send another villager to him - maybe a barrel of babies? Just wondering if there is any hope. Has anyone recovered from this situation yet?

Yes, many people have had this situation and many have managed to save their tribes. You can pray for an event that brings another villager. That's pretty much the only thing you can try now. Also, you should definitely read this real story by IBteri:

I hope your tribe will survive.

I am in the midst of a similar situation...a lone chief, who after an event became a 10 year old lone chief, was recently greeted by a canoe with another villager. An adept builder, a male adept builder, so my plight is not over yet...but I'm hanging in there, or should I say the villagers are hanging in there?

Good Luck! \:\)

There is a way you can try and manipulate things to give you a better chance at getting an event that will save your tribe. It's not entirely without risk however, so be warned.

I don't know how good of a food supply you've established, but hopefully it would be enough for your villagers to survive unattended for a day. First set your speed to slow and exit from the game entirely. Even when the game is not loaded on the computer, the clock ticks away for your tribe.

What you then do is wait for 24 hours. I think that's how often you get an event, but maybe someone has timed it exactly. Anyway BEFORE you load up the game for the first time that day, you must make a backup folder for your savegame files. You can find instructions for that here: http://www.ldwforums.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/146371/page/1#Post146371

Now when you load up your game, enough time should have passed for there to be a new event. The game is going to recognize that it's time for a new event, so as soon as the game is done loading, you're going to have an event pop up right away. If this event is not one you need to save your tribe, exit out of the game. Replace the current savegame files with the ones you backed up. Load up your VV game again.

Because you have replaced the savegame files with the ones you backed up, the game is going to think you haven't experienced an event for that day yet, so as soon as it's loaded you're going to find yourself with another event. Since events are selected randomly, it most likely will be a different one than the one you just got moments ago. You could probably repeat this process quite a bit in hopes of getting an event that you really need to survive.

I have also noticed that if I exited the game with a nursing child and loaded after enough time has passed for that child to no longer be nursing, that child will be running around as kids in the game do. However, if I end up reverting to the backup savegame files and load the game again, it rerolls the dice so to speak and I could end up with a kid of a different gender and look to the one I had previously.

What I think happens is when the child is done nursing, the game at that point randomly selects the child's gender/looks (with some genetic rules) and clothes. When you reload the game in that fashion, you essentially making the game randomly choose the kid again and could end up with an entirely different child. This could be helpful in situations where you desperately need a baby to be of a certain gender in order to continue with the tribe.

Thanks for the support. Sadly Mauchu is now sick and there is no one to heal him. He is 38. I tried the potion to help a weakened villager but he is still sick. I have paused the game and will hope for a favorable event tomorrow. Today's event already happened - gained food not that he needed any. Any other ideas?

Your other villiager can heal Mauchu, adult or child.

When I was in this situation I took a suggestion from Arnie and had my then lone chief make potions to improve health. I kept his health bar full enough to hang in there until someone else showed up to heal him.

Now, my male chief and villager are still wandering about. The new villager has almost finished a hut...so that's good I suppose.

But one thing was strange, when I checked them this morning they had fashioned a flag and renamed the island Brokeback? weird.

;\) Good Luck!

sorry to hear about that, it happened to me on VV2, and sadly by the time new villagers arrived, the woman was too old to expand the village. But here, i think you must wait about 4 hours, b/c thats how long i waited. I hope the best for you and your villagers
