Have you repaired the broken machine yet? If not, keep searching for mushrooms til you can fix it. (Your villagers are hardier than you might think!) You'll need 3 adept builders to repair machine but it only takes a minute. Then you can figure out what to do with the machine, or keep checking the Guides for more detailed help. Good Luck!

Once you have the broken machine repaired, though, don't get eager to increase your population. Until you have an unlimited food source (and the fruit trees are not), you won't be able to support more than 10-12 villagers without spending time hunting mushrooms. Each tree starts off with a lot of food, but it won't last forever, and the trees will never have that much fruit on them again.

hilite for a hint {spoiler} do you know the chief can create food once a day? i would pause my game, to wait for the 24 hrs. to pass and then have the chief create food. then use up that food and pause again, until i had the orchard
its a bit slow but it did save them.
