I know that it says in the tech screen 'level 3 leadership, help child locate a rare collectable' But is it only rare collectables??

What collectables have turned up for you???

The collectibles pointed out by the chief are only rare ones, but that won't prevent the normal appearance of other kinds at around the same time.

I was unable to locate anything when it was "pointed out". If I'm supposed to follow the direction she points my villager will need air transport. Lol.

Just keep looking. It could be anywhere. It isn't always immediately when the rare one appears. You might get 2 or 3 before you see the "rare" one.
