I know there are supposed to be 48 bugs, but thus far I've only been able to get 40. Is there a specific time during the game when the remaining bugs will surface? It's just kind of frustrating, because I'd love to find out what the remaining bugs are.

No, there is not a specific time but specific plants may help! Some bugs prefer some plant and there is a thread in the PT Guide about it: Deathwing's Guide to Insect Catching
You may also look at the foliage that is in the bottles?

Thank you Laurence! I caught the golden dragonfly completely by accident last night (can't remember what plant I had out, but I was clearing out my seeds to try to make room for others, and one of them must have triggered the dragonfly, and just now I caught the golden beetle!

I don't know much about the tier stuff, and I don't know that I'll be able to understand it if I read about it (tried last night, and my brain just doesn't work that way), so I guess I'm just going to have to keep playing around and see what works.
