So I uncovered the silver gem that appears underneath the campfire. How do you cool it down so you can pick it up?

Spoiler... I have uncovered the room behind the door, what am i supposed to do w/ the sundial? no one can touch it, it just moves? I need help w/ puzzle's #12 & #16, haven't got a clue what I need to do?
