Well, I think I might have doomed my village to a slow death of starvation and cannibalism. I had no idea research would progress so slowly. I have two kids at around 4 yrs of age making seven villagers total, only two of who are any good at research, and it's 2500 points to go before I get farming. The berry tree is tapped out. I guess I would have hit this problem sooner if I hadn't discovered 400 foods in a crate on the beach.

So I guess I know what I need to do next time. Two villagers on berry duty, three on research. Don't have kids until I'm able to farm.

My problem was I didn't know that the berries would run out. i figured it was a fixed resource. D'oh!

Great, now I'm down to 45 foods. It's gonna be Donner Party time.

That's the down side of not turning on the tutorial mode the first time you play the game - the tutorial warns you that the food supply on the berry bush is limited. I wouldn't give up hope, though. You might be surprised how long your villagers last with little or no food. This just might turn out OK.

I used the tutorial the first time through. It crashed my palm. And no, the villagers did not turn out ok. The berry bush never replenished and they died slow, protracted deaths. Village 2.0 now has a higher emphasis placed on farming.
