Thanks. A friend told me about the site. I know, I'm 50, but I still love dolls. It was while visiting the site that I got the idea of What my Isloa "Watcher" would look like. Now my Villiage people really feel like Someone is Watching over them.

Oh, your new Avi is gorgeous! I have yet to dream one up as my own. I do have several ideas "cooking"...Is Ianna holding a spindle or distaff in her hand? I seem to recall reading somewhere that someones' hobby is weaving?

As we come closer to the time when Virtual Villiage, the Secret City will be released, I am getting ready.
I often wonder to whom does the Guiding Hand belongs to. So, drawing on Greek Myth, I came up with an idea. So meet the One who watches over the souls of Isloa....Ianna (I couldn't get her any darker...)

Actually, it was the pictures of the boat screen that first gave me the idea for Ianna. In old paintings you'll often see the winds personified as faces in the clouds blowing ships along. They often appear like that as decorations on old maps as well. I also use them in my NeedleWork. It was Arnie's post gave me my final inspiration...
"Not so much Poseidon/Neptune as the gods of the winds, in Greek, the Anemoi. The main ones were Boreas (North Wind), Notus (South), Eurus (East) and Zephyrus (West). The Roman gods had different names but were similar. See Wikipedia if you are interested." Arnie
Thanks Arnie

It has been called by both names. It is used to measure one's 'life' and once measured out, cut off. I don't remember if I listed weaving as one of my hobbies, but I do love to weave. Though right now, I don't have the space.

And another connection with the Greek legends! The three Fates, or Moirae, were the personifications of destiny. They wore white robes, and their names were Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. Clotho (literally "spinner") spun the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle. Lachesis would measure the thread of life, and Atropos would cut it off (decide when it was time for someone to die).

Apart from the fact that the Greeks usually depicted her as an old hag, Ianna looks very much like Clotho.

The Romans and the Norse peoples also had sets of three very similar goddesses, the Fata and the Norns.
