I am sure everyone does this a little differently. In what order do you buy tech, and why? I can see that you can change up the order and still come out okay so I would like to hear some differing opinions.

I try to buy one farming then one engineering then one science, then finish out the farming...cause the villagers got to eat...then after that i try to buy the last level of science but ususally i dont feel like waiting that long so i just buy in a random order after that. so basically i try to get my villagers to have food first because then no one might die of starvation and if they get sick i can always heal them
Does my ordering make sense???

Farming first then as much science as I can afford so I can buy advanced medicine to keep my villagers healthy. All my kids work hard at picking mushrooms and they are pre-selected as healers to free the adults to perform the more skilled jobs. Engineering is bought on an as-needed basis. These tactics apply to both games.

To my mind the best strategy is to first purchase new sources of food, so to buy level 2 of farming. Then I buy the level 2 of science to get tech points faster and level 2 of medicine to be sure that my villagers will not become elderly too much early. After that, I may buy the level 2 of building but sometime I prefer to buy the level 3 of science, then level 3 of farming and level 3 of medicine. Here I'm quiet for doing all the other things to do!! (You can get everything from hints to spoilers in the Virtual Villagers Guide .)

To keep them from starving to death, I do the second level of farming first, then I do second level of spirituality (because it's the next cheapest), then second level science to try and get tech points faster, then second level construction, and if I haven't gotten alternative ways to increase my medicine tech points I go for second level medicine (though this new game I started I was lucky and got second level medicine thanks to an Island event), then maybe I'll go for second level fertility if I feel it's necessary. After that, I go for third level of whatever's cheapest (farming usually, then construction, then spirituality, then fertility). This time around though, I'm not going to max out science right away. I learned the mistake of doing that in the last game.
Now, maybe it's just this particular game, but, I've noticed that by doing it the way I just listed, my villagers are seeming to learn things faster, and I'm solving puzzles more quickly then I did the last game.
I mean, I still had about 600 berries left on the berry bush, and I managed to buy level two farming, and get them started on alternative food forms, and save the berry bush from being depleted like in my first game.

Ya. that was useful.
For the first few of VV2, I bought the wrong things and it ended with the death of the villagers. Now I would do engineering, then exploration, then both of the farming levels, then all the rest in any order. (I won't say so that I don't give anything away)

I didn't realize that either until now! In that case let me add that I got several lovely events that really boosted my villagers survival skills!

I always buy 1 food first and then buy science till it's maxed out, THEN I'll buy the last food, and from there it's max out building, then fertility, then spirituality.

These are all good suggestions. Obviously food first but you can make other choices after that and still make the game work. I am considering trying to run 3 games at the same time and try buying the skills in different order to see what happens.

I am considering trying to run 3 games at the same time and try buying the skills in different order to see what happens. That sounds like a good experiment. Will you post to let us know which one seems to work the best? Right now, I'm trying to get enough tech points to buy the final stage of medicine (I'm kind of sick of my villagers becoming elderly at only 58!!!!), but it's taking a long time. No twins or trips yet, but, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. And now I've got three or four villagers letting their energy bars deplete, and I've decided (cruel though it may be) that if they don't want to eat, then I'm not going to force them, but I'm not going to use them for breeding stock either, so, I'm kinding of going with the Darwin theory, "survival of the fittest", and let the strongest survive, and the weakest can die, because I'm sick of trying to force them to eat (which takes FOREVER).
