How do you play the game, full-screen or windowed? If the latter, you can always take the focus from the window by clicking elsewhere on your screen and the sound will be muted. If you particularly want to listen to some music in your browser or media player just click on that application to take the focus from VV. If you bring the focus back to the game the sound will start again, though.

i know i'm not quite *that* technologically challenged (although its close LOL) i've never really liked playing full screen for some reason, i even play FT windowed... probably my ADHD nature when i'm doing other things, its fine but if i want to listen to music on the computer while i search for collectables, i have to have the game active, thus the music i've actually wanted a volume on/off swtitch for some time, i just never said anything because i'm generally one of those out of sight, out of mind people... plus until recently i enjoyed listening to the radio (which means i jsut turned all computer sound off), but i have come to loathe the DJs and their selections on the only decent station in town, so i prefer yahoo music now, be my own DJ (VJ even!!)

Sorry to re irritate but i think that the communicating is a good option, and it could be with other villages that belong to other people

I am new to virtual villagers 2 and my granddaughter who is 3 years old and I love to play it. Unfortunately we upgraded our computer and have a problem opening the game. I am presently working with the tech people to solve the problem. Amaya and I look forward to playing the game again. Since I had some time I looked at the forum, I love many of the suggestions for V V 3 especially more puzzles, fruit tress, children pick up collectable instead of walking over them, cattle and chicken, dogs -cats any type of pet for kids,no fighting or army please. mothers can be pregnant and after the birth teach the children and earn these skills toward parenting (dad be involved too)I like the marriage idea also. Love the elder village idea and more huts to build. (anything more for builders) what about a rain storm or hurricane that damages the hut and the builders can rebuid (this would happen in a tropical island) No death please. I like the holiday ideas as an option. I notice someone said they would not pruchase if holidays included so make it an option. Amaya loves naming the kids and watching them play -more games for kids and a school - she goes to daycare and wants a school.

I'm not sure I like the idea of physically visiting another island, but i do remember the events from vv1 where someone came to the island in a boat and exchanged things with tem, giving them a boost in technology (going competely from my very bad memory here)
what if thosecame back in vv3, wth some new choices and outcomes???
Natives from other islands can come on boats and there choices can sometimes be to A) greet them, or B) hide. The consequences of greeting themcould range from one of your villagers deciding to go back with them, to getting new technology and adding points, or getting food that poisons the village! Hiding could mean they just go away, or they steal tech points or food.
The other neighbor type of event could be that they come to trade. Once example could read "The villagers on the neighboring island had a bountiful harvest! They would like to trade food for artifacts. a) Do not trade with them B) Trade 5000 tech points C) Trade 50,000 tech points" and the outcomes can be varied, or set in stone. They could also come to trade artifacts, and you give them food to get more tech points, etc.
If they are on the ocean, the villagers might need to construct a pier before neighbors can come visit. With the right number of events and outcomes, the pier could take the place of the Gong from VV2.
Just an idea.
