I don't know, halldog. Wouldn't that mean that they coded the software to do it? I just don't see that they took the time to write the code so that if you put a child in that spot (who immediately runs away), that triggers the software to start pumping out more collectables.
It may be that the time chasing a kid and moving them to that spot takes up enough time for a new collectable to appear. If you were just sitting there waiting, it would seem to take forever. But since you were busy, that time slipped away very quickly so it just feels like moving the kid there makes them come faster.
I do know for a fact that actively getting the collectables does speed them up, but I think that may simply be because the 75 second waiting time is cut short by the kid getting the collectable. So with that time being cut short, it feels like the next collectable came faster.
Having said that, if it's working for you, then enjoy! I didn't write the code so who knows if it indeed written to do that. After all, they also added the easter egg for the menu screen with the dragonflies. So why not have a "faster collectables" trigger area?
