It never really ends. Have you found all the collectibles? Even after that, the villagers can still carry on so long as you look in from time to time to make sure babies carry on being born, train up a few doctors, and so on. Lots of people carry on games for months trying to get them as high up the leader board as possible. There are several threads on this subject in the VV2 forum.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if there was an end. I think when I finished VV1, it told you when you were done I finished everything.... but getting all of the collectibles. I'll have to work on that. Thanks again!

If you collect all of the collectibles, do you get the last gong piece? Twice, a message came up on my screen saying that people went out to find a way off of the island. My game is successful so far and I got a ton of food and tech points but I still don't have the last gong piece. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens.

Nope, that has nothing to do with any of the gong pieces. They are all separate puzzles.

To get the last gong piece, you need To go to the vv2 part of the furum where they give you hints on how to solve the puzzles.

In any case, what is the "last" gong piece? That depends on the order in which you find the pieces. Normally, the piece mentioned by colourmehappy is the second piece for me, the way I play the game.
