What is the best strategy for breeding? I was fed up with amount of time it took to gain research points, so for two days I've been saving up to buy science. Now, however, my populations about 40 years old (how old until they stop having children?) and I only have two kids (one from breeding, one was an adult turned into a kid by a potion). It seems to me that I don't have enough people to do all the work by village needs. At this point in the game how many kids do most people have? Will I be ok, or will lack of workers kill my village?

My first question is why are you saving up for science? Not to give the game away, but focus on food! I think you are okay because having babies takes workers away from tasks in the earlier portions of the game.

Your villagers will breed until they die. I was originally worried about the same thing until I read a post that someone had a 75 year old have a baby! You just don't want your older villagers to die with a bunch of 7 year olds running around.

So, science doesn't do anything? I thought if I got a lot of science quickly I could research with less villagers, and use more to build and get food. OOPS!

I definitely think science helps but I can't answer that question because I am not that far along!

I have been reading a lot of posts here but have been avoid any that appear to give away too much information.

All I can tell you is that I am on my forth or fifth try and food has ALWAYS been an issue for me! I am trying to get to level 3 harvest so that I don't have to worry so much about food.

Purchasing the higher levels of science, coupled with increasing your villager's skill as scientists, will allow you to gain research points more quickly. However, most people try to get the better food sources as quickly as possible.

Your villagers will continue to make babies until they pass away. As long as they have decent health, they can make babies But do remember that only when a villager reaches 14 years of age can they become productive members. But they need to EAT the instant that they're born

I've noticed that the kids take after their parents somewhat. If a two decent scientists get "indecent", their kid will start off with some research experience and automatically start researching once of age.

You are so right!! If you think about it, you can use this to your advantage during the game!

I got all excited, a bunch of little babies landed on the shore of my island. New workers without having to put a woman out of commission for two years! But...the little tikes are eating me out of house and home!!!! I've been trying to work up to 50000 tech points for harvesting for days, but I keep having to take people off of research and put them on food duty. It's very annoying! How many people have you allocated for food vs. research?

Normally, I have at least two on food once I have over 6-7 villagers. Farming will sustain you for awhile, but fishing is essential for a large village. Keep 2-3 farming and the rest on research and you should be just fine!

You need level 3 of harvesting and unobstructed access to the fishing area.

In the beginning of the game, mortality seems to strike in the mid-50's. Bear that in mind when planning a breeding strategy. In my game I'm trying to be cautious so that mouths don't outstrip food supply.
