Unless my villagers are starving, I never choose to eat the whale - I don't think it's worth it. Part of the fun of the game is agonizing over the choices. If you really want to know what the alternatives are, you can search on "whale" and you'll see a post from back in April with a description of the alternatives. Don't go there if you don't want the temptation of knowing what all of the Island Events are, though. It's a MAJOR spoiler.

Ya you are correct , rescuing the whale brings you a level ahead in spirituallity. To me that brings the fun out of the game when the pop-ups give you tech levels.

I saved the whale and a few hours later lost all my food to the typhoon. Glad I didn't go for whale meat!

I haven't encountered the whale yet, but in the game...or in real life, I'd opt to eat the whale.

But in real life I'm a Republican. Go figure.

At least when youve reached level 3 in spirituality you don't have to choose... do you?
