Hey guys! I'm very new to this game. My technical questions are:

1.. How do the different speeds in the options menu work?
2.. If I bought VV2 from a store (GameStop) can I still get the version upgrades?

Thanks in advance for any help! \:\)

OH!! And another question (soon enough I'll probably have a million of them hehe)

About nursing mothers.. I had a mother that sat at "Nursing for: 0" for like 5 minutes when I timed it out and figured out that those numbers were 1 minute each.. so why does the "0" take so long before she puts the baby down?

1. they work for

Work(research i think)
Nursing Mothers
Food eaten
villagers age

2. yes but the update must be from the site you bought it from(the one that shows up after LDW logo, if nothing appears it means that it came from LDW, but i think reflexive didn't put their logo at the game) just a thought

3. this happens to me also, i think that it varies on the game speed

example

2x speed 0 - 2 minutes

normal speed 0-4 minutes

1/2 0-8 or 6

i dunno

correct me if im wrong

One of the interesting things about Virtual Villagers is that what happens when the game is actually running is frequently different from what happens when the game is off. When it's off, the game state is calculated and updated at game launch, and game speed becomes an important factor.

When it's left running, game speed has less effect on the villagers' work. They do their jobs and produce tech points, food, etc. at whatever rate their movements allow, although the amount of food, points, etc. is adjusted according to the game speed setting. The game speed always has a direct effect on such things as nursing babies (although the timer does sometimes get stuck at zero for a short time), villager aging, and (to a degree) food consumption.

The game speed setting has no effect on the villagers' movements or work/play habits, which are determined by their walking speed and activity choices. That results in an inevitable difference between what happens when the game is running, and when it's off.

Oh very helpful answers, thank you so much!

I'm currently on my 3rd village. I had to reset a few times due to turning the game off (on x2 speed) and coming back to only 1-2 villagers left alive with no food, algea in the ocean, and I didn't have level 2 farming yet to get coconuts.

Sooo finally.. I have been pausing my game at night (Is this bad? Let me know if it is) until my villagers are more self sufficient.

So far I have 13 villagers, a farm with scarecrow, and I've found the cauldron. *proud* These forums have been a big help. \:\)

I've read a bunch of posts about this, but I still haven't quite got it all sorted out in my mind.

My villagers move around just as fast in half-time as they do in normal or double-time, and they seem to learn just as fast in half-time. But they don't age as fast in half-time. So can I keep them in half-time indefinitely, and get more work out of them than they'd do in normal time? Seems to me this would push up their abilities faster, in essence allowing them to learn more before getting old. My goal is to solve all the puzzles without losing a villager to old age.

Running the game in half time has advantages, but you won't get "as much work out of them" in half time, because the villagers' output is adjusted according to game speed in VV2. That was not the case in VV1. \:\)
