Alright, I understand the significance of being invisible, (AKA being hidden from the who's online list) but sometimes it's quite annoying. I think some of the invisibles out there aren't invisible for safety reasons, but just to be invisible. If you don't have a reason to be invisible, please, I encourage you not to. One annoying thing, if say I sent someone a private message and want to know whether they're on or not, if they're invisible, I have no way of knowing. Also, if I want to see whether someone is still there, since it still says your online for ten minutes after you leave, I can't tell if you're there or not. If you're not invisible, I can go to details in the who's online box. If your last activity was like 4 mins ago, I can assume you're gone. This is just annoying to me. I used to just deal with it until I saw this:

Hey Jazzo, I kinda understand where you're coming from, but I think maybe some of those are youngsters who's parents don't really want them visible.

I don't know that that's the case, but suspect it is. I'd rather see some of the anonymous users sign up and join our little journey into the fantasy world of LDW game fans.

I am a youngster myself 11 years old, I'd call that a youngster. Remember, it was not a request, I'm just saying. If you wanna stay invisible, fine.

And I agree with Jazzo. The invisibles do get annoying sometimes, but I think maybe they don't want people checking up on them. Some people are like that. However, I don't mind people looking at what I'm doing or knowing if I'm online.

I think it's annoying too, if you think someone is lurking that you wanted to connect with. If you want to feel safe, just don't enter sensitive information in you're profile. But I think some of the people who do it are people who post alot and are 'famous' on the LDW board and don't want just everyone PMing them just 'cause they see them online.

But whatever they're reasons, I'm sure it's important to them or they wouldn't do it.

Well, I used to be visible all the time. I started going dark when EVERY time I got on, people were "beating" me up, or trying to devour me. It started to get annoying for me always having to "protect" myself and not have good conversations with my LDW friends. I am a friendly person and I find it hard to ignore it. I don't want to hurt peoples feelings or appear uppity or snobby so I play along for the peace of it all. I found I can surf the forum without being "attacked" when I am invisible. Unfortunately, my cover gets blown when I make a post but I can still ignore the SB when I am invisible. Maybe I made a post and left. no one knows. I mean even now when I am in the SB, my leg is being gnawed on. Crickey! I need that leg to get around.

I mean once in awhile it is fun to role play and what not. I have fun with it and I think I can improv with the best of them but sometimes I just don't have the mental energy to keep up and just want to be "normal". (whatever that is) .

I never use the shout box, or even look at it, and am visible. It might be that sometimes people have tried to speak to me via the shout box and were annoyed when I seemed to ignore them. If so, I apologise; it wasn't intentional.

I can, though, understand that some people, or their parents, might be worried about showing their presence online for safety reasons. Although this forum, like LDW's games, is as child-friendly as possible, it is better to be safe than sorry.

I agree with all of that, and Gamey's I especially understand. And Gamey, if you're not in the mood to play, fine, I totally get it and I'm sure everyone else does too. Just say so. Stay invisible if you want, I'm just saying my point.

If everyone picked on me the way they do Gamey, I'd have to make myself invisible too.

You know, Jazzo. I never thought of it that way. I always thought the invisible were like Administrators doing Administrator stuff and didn't want to be bothered (poor choice of words). Then the anonymous people were non forum users at least they have not signed up and they are just looking at game stuff.

I've been visible and at times I may glance at the shout box, u know catch it out the corner of my eye; one time I even asked for help there. But other than that the shout box and what's going on there doesn't interest me.

Hey, I'm suddenly "invisible", & I don't know why. It was showing no members online before I signed in, now it says "1 registered (1 invisible)" & doesn't show my name. ??? I didn't change anything in my profile......oooh, maybe I'm not real....
oops, that invisible isn't me after all.

The forum software doesn't refresh the "Who's Online" box very often. If you want to see who is really online, you need to click on the "details" link, which is always accurate.

I never gave it a thought of been invisable or visable I sometimes my name goes off show I just thought it becouse, I'm not posting or looking at my games etc in other words not active

a lot of times i forget if i am invisible or not
like jonie , sometimes i do it to check PM and i forget it is on

I often check to see if there's anything interesting on the board and/or new games in the works. If not, I stay invisible and leave pretty quickly. No offense!

i understand that some peoples parents dont want them to be visible, so its fine with me & i understand why gamey doesnt want to be visible, lol. I think if someones invisible then they just prolly dont want to be bothered.

I agree with everyone. My parents are pretty strict, except for the computer, thankfully. But I can see how some wouldn't want their kid to be seen and PMed. I totally understand. It's just a privacy issue. Some people don't even receive PMs. It's just how you feel about being open to everyone.
