I have a few suggestions of my own (shocking isn't it?)
There has always been an uproar over the nursing mothers just sitting about. It is well established that they cannot work, and well they shouldn't, because it adds a level of difficulty to the game and makes you consider your strategy early on. What if the nursing mothers at least responded to the children already born, though? The children all gather to dance, to play tag, what if when those games popped up, the nursing mothers just moseyed on over there to keep an eye on them? Or perhaps the children could gather around the nursing mother for story time?
What I have in mind is as such - at a certain tech level, the builders are able to cut down a mighty tree, and then hew it into boards. The boards are then used to build a fishing pier into a previously inaccessible area. After cutting the tree into boards, they discover that there is a trail behind the tree, and that they can capture and domesticate wild animals, but before they do so, they must use the leftover boards to build a pen (which must be kept up and cared for).
I like it when one event or occurrence leads into another one, instead of having them all separate.
Also, a lot of people are clamoring for a mini game... I was thinking that perhaps there could be a sort of mosaic game, where you either take objects you have discovered on the island, or that are just standard, and arrange them into patters, like a mosaic. Then, you could take a screenshot, like in PT. I was then hoping that that screenshot could actually be integrated into the game itself, turned into a mosaic on a wall they discovered, or the floor of the gathering area. It would be fun, creative, and add another level of interactivity to the game.
