That is usually caused by an incompatible or corrupted savegame file. It's possible that your savegame file became corrupted during that crash that you had on your LifeDrive. I understand that you wanted to continue with the game that you had in progress, but if you were to load the savegame file from before the crash you'd probably be OK.
