I'm up to 25 vilalgers now, and I can't get anyone to work on a new building.

My master constructor started to build a new house, but he's pushing 60 and is weak, so it goes really slowly. Anyone else I drag over the top of the construction site just does nothing. How can I get them to learn construction?

With all other crafts there is an easy way to learn the first little bit: The bush, cactus, each other, etc. How to get construction started?

You should be able to train other villagers to work on that hut. Sometimes the hut hotspots are a little touchy, so try exiting the game, launching it again, and see if that changes anything for you. The contruction training issue will be fixed in the v1.1 update.

I don't know if this is the same problem, but I had trouble training construction workers too. But in my case, I just stuck with them for a while (at least a few minutes) and they eventually caught on.

If they just stood there, I'd drag them at it again. If they tried and shook their head "no", I told them "Yes" with my stylus by dragging them at it again. Most of the time it took 3 tries, sometimes up to 5 tries, but they eventually got the hang of it.

Even then, I would watch them until thier status went from "untrained" to "trainee" at least, or else they would wonder off easily. This worked with any but the rare reeeeally stubborn ones who just didn't want to do construction.

I think that's a different situation, Brenda. The situation I described involves villagers who act as if they've been dropped in the middle of nowhere, rather than at a spot where they could actually work. They don't refuse to build, because they don't even know that they've been asked to build.

In the situation that you're describing, they know they're supposed to do something - they just won't do it! Some villagers just don't seem to have much aptitude for certain tasks. For example, I've seen villagers (I call them "farm dummies") who refuse many, many times to forage or farm. But, when I move them to the research table, they "get it" on the first try and stick to it like a burr on a dog. These little villagers are fascinating!

lol! Yes, that's what I've noticed too. Some are just plain better at some things than others...even if their original aptitude says otherwise.

I know what you mean by some of them remaining in "nothing" mode once placed in a zone, but even then, if I tinkered with them, and kept placing them in that area, they eventually caught on.

Maybe what was happening, in my case, is that, unknowingly, I was dragging them to a slightly different spot each time, and eventually hit a spot in that zone that wasn't so tricky.

In either case, I agree that these little characters are fascinating to watch and work with. When I have to work with some more than others to get them going, I just look at them as "special cases" and give them a little extra TLC.

(Of course, if they could think, they might not think of me using my stylus like a cattle prod as being "tender loving care" lol!)

Ladycfi, thank you. That worked. Of course, it was all for naught, as my next post will show <pout>

For some reason, every new game I've started has had one villager who starts out with some skill in construction, the very first time I select them. I don't know if that's deliberate, or if there are villagers that are predisposed to other occupations as well.

It's only construction, and it's probably because that particular villager has been fixing up the place in order to make it habitable after their landing on the beach! Why the others didn't help and simply pace back and forth in village center worried about everything is open to speculation!

That sounds like what I would do, in that situation

Oh? I thought it is to give the builder a headstart in acquiring construction skills. I noticed that construction and healing are more difficult to become master than farming and research.

Some of villagers will quite faithfully work to achieve master expertise (with slight wanderings). There are some who will not stick to a job once they reach adept level, but will do all sorts of things. The doctors in particular ... farmers and researchers will still remember to go back to research or fishing/watering crop/harvesting etc, but doctors ... have yet to see an adept/master doctor voluntarily return to the medicine plant.
