Yes, that is something you need to be careful about.

When that happens I will do one of three things:

  1. Pollinate the "stub" to make sure that I at least get some seeds out of my mistake
  2. mutate it if I have some Mutagen available. It may change foliage in which case I can sell it. It may not earn back the cost of the Mutagen, but I also may get a plant I can use for other crosses
  3. trash it and remember to be more careful the next time \:\)

I'd add a 2(a) before number 3 in sfrose's list: try to sell it in the nursery. A couple of times I've sold just a nubbin that was left after careless snipping. PT Barnum's alleged saying about a sucker being born every minute seems to apply to the customers of the nursery as well.

Once I had to drop the price quite a lot but a couple of other times they sold at the full price. A couple of other times they didn't sell at all, though.

Yeah, sometimes I try that also, but I often don't have time to let the pot sit in the nursery, just in case. If there are other plants ready to sell it doesn't hurt, but often I need the pot for a new seed rather than the time invested in an attempted sale.

Lemonbush’s are the foliage I’ve hacked off the most. I pollinate and sell or save seed.
