What's wrong with the Shout Box?

The Shout Box is experiencing a problem that occurs peiodically: it is completely blank, even when you type and submit a message. The problem is temporary and usually lasts less than a day. The problem appears to be caused by connection or server slowdowns. The Shout Box is the last thing to load, and will remains blank after the browser stops loading the page. The image in the forum header can also be blank.
The browser that is most often affected by this problem is Internet Explorer. Other browsers will usually load the forum panes more quickly, including the Shout Box. If you need to use the Shout Box while it is experiencing these issues, switching to another browser, such as Firefox (a free browswer available from Mozilla) will usually allow you continue to use the full features of the forum.
Another thing that is known to cause problems with the Shout Box is the use of non-text characters or non-English character sets (Thanks Airstream Raider for noticing that).

Ironic that I use Firefox and used the "Ad-Block" extension to make the shout box blank on purpose because I found it annoying and it slowed down the loading time on the forum.

Can you have Firefox & IE installed & workable at the same time? & then what, do you use either/or for different purposes? I've heard about Firefox for a long time, but don't know anything about it, except its supposed to be more secure than IE.

I have both IE and Firefox on my PCs and use Firefox along with Safari on my Macs and frequently have different browsers open at the same time. You will need to decide which one will be the default browser when you click on links (e.g. in an email), but you can use whichever one you want, whenever you want.
