Set different goals, try playing in other modes as in normal and hard.
Some try to set goals to reach all skill levels except level 3 in spirituality.
Some try to get to a certain point before having anyone die.
LOL I have a game going where I keep all the females preggo when they are old enuf and if I have the "space" for more kids.
Another game I have going is I want to max out all my skills.
There are many different ideas you can try to set for yourself once you "finish" the game.

you either play until you are bored with your game (cause there is nothing else to do)and erase it.

OR You start another island- and try other methods, etc...

Or you watch your 1st island's people die off one by one

Virtual Villagers, like all of our real-time games, is designed to be open-ended. Each game has clear goals, but the games can continue to go on and allow you to play as long as you like. Every game is different, and the villagers are different, too. The Island Events will continue to happen, which can dramatically change the way things are going for your villagers. You can also try to get a ranking in our online High Scores page. Once you get tired of your current game, you can do like most people do and play the game again on different difficulty settings and/or try different strategies. The puzzles aren't as stressful the second time, and you can try completing them much earlier in the game!

how do you get a bigger population than 90? the high scores say they have like 537021659217 or something....

Don't mind the high score page. It is useless at this point, as all of the 50 peeps have cheated to get those numbers. And anyone have a population over 92 had to edit a hex file to do it.

Are there any plans for an upgrade to a more complex game? Maybe continue the whole cave thing?

Has anyone actually answered the question about how to get more than 90 people? I love the game, but would like to breed more and am at my 90 person limit. And besides, how is it that there are 1 hut and what becomes the school for up to seven people, and you end up with only 4 huts and the school for 90 people? How is that possible? Can we expand to more than 4 huts and more than 90 people?

The simple answer is No. If you are at 89 and have trips, you will end up with 92, but that is the very mostest.

Thanks for responding. Someone else that I was talking to about the game told me they had gotten over a thousand, and i had not figured out how that was possible without messing up files.

I reckon there's nothing wrong with cheating, so long as you don't affect others.

Thanks for the ideas about what to do after all 16 are complete.. I have completed all 16 as of yesterday. My question is: Do I still need to train research after I have completed all 16?

If you have all tech levels of evrything you really dont need scientists anymore - you can retrain them to do something else - or just let them retire and they will exercise and do laundry -- they will find something to do

I kept playing and used one male for breeding and when he got to the maximum of the skill, from one night to the other, I got a population of 90, he prep all the females on the island. A question.... how can I put a picture of this here? I "creen printed" but when I try to post it, it says that the extension is not correct. Thanks all

Surely there has to be more, or why have those beady eyes looking out from the cave.
It's getting very frustrating trying to find out if we can get through.PLEASE designers extend the ending

Im wondering who determines what cheating is? Just messing with the numbers so you look like your game is better than it is or does looking at a game guide count as cheating? I think some games are impossible to beat without a game guide, if you want to see all the secret endings and such.

i agree. i didnt mess with the numbers or anything, but my first time playing the game i used a guide to beat it but if i didnt use it i think i would have gone crazy trying to figure out how to do all the puzzles.

What do you do with an always 5 year old child [GC] that has all the skills, but is never accessible?

Now since I learned how to store my villagers away, and I dont have to kill them to start a new game, I can move on with a new VV to see if this 5 year oldness is just a glitch or not.

So how come after all the puzzles are solved, my villagers are still so darned curious about that cactus?
And sometimes I have a villager that "sees something unusual" looks around a bit and then does nothing...what does that mean? Can anyone get a villager to be master of all trades? (besides the golden child)

you need to go into a program that can handle pics (photoshop/paint) and paste it there. then, you can see your picure and save it if you wish.

I think its a shame that people have messed with the numbers because I would love to know where I really come on the board but I have to admit to cheating to find out where the treasure is, I would have destroyed something in frustration otherwise. I'm also trying desperately to complete 15 out of 16 without anyone dying (the 16th being the grave yard). However the game is against me! Every time I go away my farmer gets pregnant, no one else just her, and I end up with no food. Gona try again (5th time) determined to do it but feeling like it's impossible.

Sorry, I beg to disagree about everyone with a population over 92 cheated. Somehow, I ended up with 93, I guess a couple of ladies became "with child" at the same instance.

I've had a maximum population of 97 without cheating. It is, indeed, possible (but not common) to have more than 92 villagers.

I noticed that the painting on the cave wall shows villagers falling down a waterfall and the clues hint about some villagers going to another part of the island. Does the trench on the left side of the screen have anything to do with this? It looks like the dark patch in the water on the left side of the lagoon (under the first flower on the left from the top of the screen) could lead to the trench. The map shows more island that we do not currently use and it looks like someone is standing in the middle of it (maybe the blinking eyes?). I'm on an old IBM laptop and my graphic card isn't the greatest so I might be seeing things. LOL

I dont think the timing is correct either in the game or on my laptop. Somehow i havent touched my game in over 3 weeks at 2x speed, and when i turn the game on...only about 15 people are dead and i still have 77 villagers. Real hours played is 1374 because its my original game started the week of the games release, but yet i only have 400 babies. On the leader board someone with less hours than me by about 50 hours has 1700 babies. Now how is this possible unelss a time somewhere is not working right. Or does the game stop and pause if your away for more than say a few days??? Just curious.

The leaderboard should be made able to reorder by clicking the top bars like in excell . I want to get on there somehow but i never will by babies at this rate.

If I remember correctly, there is a safety net that kicks in if you have not run the program in over a week. What I think it does is only update your game x amount of days, thereby saving your village. I'm sure BB will correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what I remember, and it seems to do that in some of my older games.

The game ends...at 90 villagers. If VV2 is coming out will you have to buy it again or just upgrade cos every screen shot has 100+ population?

Ive been playing the game for a while now. Im not interested in cheeting, just in seeing where the game leads me...
I had one villager find a scroll, and disappear down a path... I dont think hes ever returned.. Has anyone else had this event happen... ? probably..
Im hoping that as we proceed with the game, more events will happen slowly...Maybe even take us further along with ALL the Island.. WHO knows.. Im sure not finding all my answers here.. ARE Any of you ?

Just drag one of the villagers and drop him/her into the cave opening and see what happens.

Well, that may or may not be exactly true. It is easy enough to create a village population of around 270 with hex editing just by making all men and women pregnant with triplets And yes the men can be "made" pregnant. However, I would not guarantee that the game will not crash with that many villagers due to the the fact that the file structure will only hold a fixed number of villagers before you run into other game relevant data fields. (I haven't actually tried to take this to any extremes so I don't know the practical limits.) I do seem to get a game crash whenever the burial ground gets filled up not sure what that limit is either. Hex edits do make it possible to generate just numbers for the stats page and I don't mind the maintainers using good sense to weed these out.

I maxed out my tech skills to complete my first winning game. The first two tries failed with all dying.
I agree with those that are asking "what now?" This game is more than a bit dissappointing. Most games, even regular non-realtime games last much longer than this to get to the end - and that's even with playing them for longer periods at a time. Kind of a bum deal for $20 imo.
Also, even this forum is kinda messed up - there is no "post" button so it's like this big mystery how you actually display your own post??

There are a lot of different forum software products being used by various sites, and each one works a little differently. The "Post" button in these forums allows you to make a new post in a particular forum. There are other ways to see your own posts. Exactly what is it that you're not able to do?

Try different people and put each one in your cave. Some of them don't like caves and some like it alot. You may even want to go throgh all your people and look at their likes some of them live caves.

People seem to think the only value in a game is the first time you play it through. I dont understand that. I still play VS on my palm from time to time, VV on my pc, PT on palm, FT on PC and i think they all have great replayability. I mean i've played retail games with less replayability than these games.

The cheapest games youll find on the market are about 9.99. I pay 20$ just for a screensaver the other day. Dream Aquarium. So in my eyes 2-$ for something i can actually play..not just watch, has even more benefit. Awe well personal preference. The games are great IMO

As for forums, there is mainly phpbb and ubb. Both are simple to use and rather similar

I agree. I may get a game and play it for a while before going on to another game. I like sites like zone.msn.com since I can play a short "online" version of many games before playing something else.

Games like FT & VV require a bit more dedication in setting up the environment and can keep your interest for several days before the completion, but aren't a "quick win."

I've found that setting up different challenges in games add some variety as to how they play.

For instance, in one game (set in easy mode) I'm not setting any preference for job, but let the villagers do what they want (with occasional exceptions when the "hand of the goddess" temporarily directs them. i.e. will start each of them in all fields and may push to get food when low or more tech if close to a new level.) I find that that way they become adept at several things, but take longer to become a master.

And early events may change the entire direction of a game!

I don't care as much about the ending as how I got there.

please help.. newbie here and to gaming itself. I loved this game until the end..now I can't figure out what to do after the 16 puzzles, is the game over? Who was in the cave? How do I get them to the other part of the island? Why do the vv keep running over to the medical cactus? If I could dig the thing up and throw it in the ocean I would! Why don't the vv's go to the cave like they did to the stupid boulder when it was there? Can you tell I'm frustrated? Sorry...help?

Time to let your villagers get on with their paradise and look in on them occasionally (maybe at 1/2 speed instead of 2x)... and start another game (or games if you'd like the challenge of managing different villages at the same time). Also different level of difficulty - believe me, you'll see a difference as you try additional strategies to get to the end -- and in the meantime, like the rest of us, wait impatiently for VV2

Just completed the 16 puzzles, and thats it!

I am slightly dissapointed, I dont feel I could bring myself to play it again, as it would be exactly the same!

It definately should be far more interactive!

And sometimes I have a villager that "sees something unusual" looks around a bit and then does nothing...what does that mean? Can anyone get a villager to be master of all trades? (besides the golden child)

I have the same question!

I have the game set on hard, and my villagers are doing the same thing.

Is there any point in continuing?

Thanks.

If you guys want a new change in the game then read my post under Tech Points which should have read Earned Points.... I have a lvl 1 to lvl 2000 new system which could and should make this game more interesting. Its something new for those that are bored.... Lets see who can reach lvl 2000, without cheating!.

P.S. Its based on your research, so i recommend you leave one open so your villagers can continue to earn you points. Good luck and hope this makes the game alot more fun for those that are bored!

What end? Ha! This game is ongoing. Yes, you solve the puzzles but then you can keep playing forever or until all your villagers die. You can also play multiple games and different levels of difficulty. Good luck! ;\)

I have a question now that I have completed all the puzzles...
What or Who did the eyes belong to in the cave and what happened to whatever was in there when the boulder was moved? And I found that after playing the game for only a short time that I was trying to move my IE pages and windows explorer boxes the same way I moved around in the came by dragging the screen....lol

"Speeding" you game up can cause several problems. I would not suggest doing that. Instead, just keep plodding along unitl you are able to get your GC. At this stage of the game, your game should not need a lot of attetnion, other then checking in on it once or twice a day. So when VV:TLC comes out you should not have a problem of playing both games.

Sure, if you want to risk messing up your game and all the other software on your computer! \:D Seriously, adjusting the system clock on a computer affects more than you realize, and it's really not recommended. A lot of people have caused problems in their game and messed up such things as antivirus software and even Internet access because their clock is wrong.

I had three tribes going, each a different skill level. The normal level was doing rather well, and I was at level 2 for all techs with a growing population. I would set my game to 1/2 speed every night, but one morning I turned on the game and found all was lost - NONE of my tribes were there anymore. Is there a specific file I could look for to possibly locate these lost villagers again?

I have a question....as to end....does the golden child ever get older than 5? And do anything other than party and replenish crops? Just wondering....have enjoyed the game and also have VV2 going....hate to toss out my first villagers though. I also wish that stats were kept after the 50 villagers are in the cemetary. Hello,
My first time on the forem. Just finished vv1. Had to look for answer to #13, now I'm sorry I did. I'm 61 and told myself life is to short to be spending so much time on a game. I loved you game. A puzzle like this makes me crazy intil I can solve it.
Please don't listen to the people saying they want bathrooms and other things from our world. You have created a universe where you get to make the laws. You can have magic potions arriving on the beach or anything else you want to be 'normal' occurrences. The fun for me is trying to find out how this made up world works and solve the puzzles. Thanks, it's been fun, but I'm going gold panning now. I'll probably come back to vv2 in the cold and dark days of Winter.

To get over 90 villagers, You have to get all the collectables. That's how I did it. I'm up to 117, as the villager having baby 114 has triplets

I am waiting for my special person to appear. Is there any special event that helps him to come?

It depends upon whether you're playing Virtual Villagers or Village Sim. They both require certain technology and puzzles, but in Virtual Villagers you have to actually do something. You can always check the Guide Section for help. \:\)

I didn't know that could even be done...

Is it permissible to do that just for fun and not send in your stats to the leaderboards? The limit *is* kind of a drag :p

to get 115 in vv1 you have to hex edit, which is frowned upon

PP, when you hex edit all you are changing is the counter, not the actual number of villagers you have. So at most all you can ever have is 52 or so villagers running around the island. The number that is getting changed is only the number located in your stat’s. So there is no reason to do that unless it is to get on the leader board. Does that make sense?

How many tech points does the whole thing cost? I'm on about 45k so far, needing four times that just to complete the first 10 puzzles. Slightly annoyed that all my adults are too hungry to mate, but not hungry enough to eat. Five children atm though.

I have a few questions and a problem. First the problem, if I try to refresh data to see how my game compares to others it says 'are you offline?'. Im online all the time, this has been going on 2 days now and refresh doesnt work. Any idea how to fix it?

Ive done all the puzzles. My question is about the strange plant, what exactly do the berries do? My people dont seem to be aging, I have 1 16 yr. old male with master farming, seems kinda fast considering I had a 58 yr. old female die right after reaching master farming earlier in game. Also my 14 yr. old females are 'embracing' males, cant have babies though. I know the puzzle said it extends their life, does it freeze or dramatically slow it down?

I have the Golden Child, so far he's only done good things but the partys are getting annoying, cant keep anyone working and only need tech points for last medical and the treasure which is taking forever to dig up even with about 12 villagers.

I must say, villagers dont know what they want. No matter what job theyre doing they want to do something else. lol Mouzzee

When I refresh my stats, I have the same note than you and I'm also online all the time! It could be the connection with LDW. And it the same for VV1, VV2 and Plant Tycoon!
For the GC, I agree he is annoying. When he makes a party, I take my searchers and put them on the table and they work again! \:\/ Until I dont have the tech points that I need, they dont dance!! The same with my trainee doctors when I want they study the stranges plants!!
For the digging work, you must know that it's very long, you just must be patient!! \:\)

I agree with you Mouzzee about the magic plant, I took 2 villagers and have them eat the berries (many times) and by the time
that the others aging by 2 years my 2 guys where still
the same age. I'm wondering if this is not cause the berries!!

Finish collections of shells, beetles, butterflies, and pebbles. Continue to gong every 24 hours. Keep population records going in life forms. See new developments in socialism and new gained learning in the different arts practiced on the island. Read the gong but beware, it has taken a life and ruined the health of the gonger for no apparent reason. What is that? It scared me into a bad ending.

Those are things that you can do in VV2, not in VV1. Please make sure that you post suggestions in the correct forum.

Hey all, i just wanna know whether theres a way to find new areas of the island. After finding the cave it mentioned that ppl that lived there before had escaped to another side of it, so im wondering if thats where all the people could try to find next (after finishing what needed to be finished). If you look at the map/areial view you would notice theres somthing else on the left side of the island (from the palm trees). Is there any chance that the villagers may discover that area?

Also the school; villagers keep thinking it could be converted. I heard that it was just a glitch so if it is then dont worry about it.

Thats about it folks; just concerned about other areas of Isola.

Thanks

I now have all the puzzles completed . I have 90 villagers , none are aging .8 have died , that was before the berries of life . I have all the tech mastered and en extra 554674 , over 147483 food stocked . I finally made everyone either builders , farmers, doctors , there is no need for scientists any more .
I agree about the GC , he's annoying in the fact that every time he creates food or has a party , everyone drops what they are doing and follows him . I've had the GC for 3 days , and he is still 5 years old . None has aged in my village for 3 days .
I have the same problem with refreshing stats , except mine just freezes the game .

If refreshing stats freezes the game, it's likely that you have a firewall that's preventing the game from accessing the stats server over the Internet. This answer in our Support FAQ will help you resolve that issue. \:\)

There is no age limit on bearing children in VV1, as I understand it.

There really is no finish after... (doesn't say spoiler). Before that, you just let your villagers die off, and you lose.

I am also trying to find the end of this game and it seems open-ended. And boring. Most of my villagers seem quite happy and delighted with each other. They fish, fix the huts, do laundry, exercise, complain, teach, tell a joke or relax. Boring really.

Wow....the "ending" is a bit of a dissapointment.....find the 16 puzzles....and no reward. The villagers just keep plodding along. Hmmmmm, very debatable whether I will invest the time in parts two and three.

For those who want to know what to do at the end of the game I tried on the different trials, one time I got a whale another time I didn't, I always got different things happening then the time before especially when making different choices and so on.Think of it like those books they used to or still have where each page you choose what to do next and each choice leads you to a different story and ending.

I found it to be more interesting if it is put on fast speed and leave it and when you come back to it there might be 60 or more children with all the adults died of old age. then when say 2 or 3 of the kids reached 14 and get event that takes all the food and then you got to stay with them to get the food up and making sure that the GC not make parties. That happened to me.

Now I don't have time to play it that way any more as I got my other villager 2, 3 and of course VF to look after now.

Some of my people are beginning to worry about housing. Is there a way to build more huts? I have 90 and sometimes 91 people. Also wondering about the cave and the map showing more areas. Any way to access those areas?
