OK, I completed this game once before but my memory not being what it was, I can not remember how I made the wooden cog, I know it's made from the old tree stump and I have the two statues in place and it tells me I need the cog, but no matter where I drop my master builder or master scientest or perfect villager at around/on it does not make the cog, so what am I forgetting? Please and thank you

The observatory puzzle is definitely a challenging one!
To make the cog,
drag and drop an adult villager on the wooden log. You'll need to have already moved the log to the observatory base and crafted the saw, while your village's crafting and research technologies should both be level 4.

That one is a bit misleading as they don't give you clues for another part you need to place first
and then the cog will appear

Spoilers!
I made the hardened glass for the telescope. I can’t get anyone to pick it up from the craft hut. Also, how do I make the saw? My people are working but nothing new is happening. I have the garden partially done. I have the pots positioned around the garden. I filled them with potting soil. Now I am stuck.

The saw! How to make the saw. I’ve tried making a forge bucket but no one will pick up metal or anything. I’ve dragged my master villagers all over the island. Tried to get myriads of people to make new plans. Dropped folks on the telescope 🔭. Made hardened glass but no one will pick it up at the crafting hut. I even tried the kids to see if they can do anything. Big zero. I am fast approaching 1 billion tech points and have nothing to do. I am out of ideas. Help?

Constructing the saw is similar to other tools -
send an adult villager to gather whale bone and carry it to the work bench; an adult villager will construct the saw. Then, drop the villager on the saw to cut the tree trunk.
