How do I wear purchased clothes?

I've bought some clothing from the new store but I don't seem to be able to wear it?

Drag the clothing item from your inventory and drop it on your mayor. If it is clothing for the opposite sex you'll get a message saying so. You can drop it on some other peeps too! Make sure the mayor isn't too close when you do that as he or she may claim dibs on the item.

Open your inventory, lynny, and drag the item of clothing (after it's purchased) onto your mayor.

Apologies for dredging up a very old thread, but it seems a tad daft to take clothes from storage, put them in inventory, close storage and THEN dressing your character - that's like taking your clothes from one wardrobe (or chest of drawers) transferring them to another wardrobe and then putting them on - is it not possible to cut out the middle bits…?

Sparking of daft, why's it not possible to drag clothes from inventory onto your character's 'avatar' left of screen, rather than having to close the storage window and dragging clothes onto them in-game…?

I'm sure you must have an excellent explanation as to why this isn't possible…
