Why do family members keep smelling the room with the blue rug?

Why do family members keep smelling the room with the blue rug?
I'd also like to know the answer to this puzzle, or at least a nudge in the right direction!

When I return to the home renovation menu, the information for the blue room says that construction had never been finished! I've already purchased it, so how do I get the workers to return to do what they've been paid to do? Is there some way that my family could sue the company for reparations?

Is there a checkmark on the picture for Bedroom 2? If there is, then nothing further needs to be done to finish the construction. The description of each room doesn't change, even after the renovation is complete.

Re: Smelling the room - 01/14/13 04:23 PM
Yes, there's a checkmark, but the description says the room was never completed, and the peeps continually sniff at it! It's driving me bananas because I don't know how to make them stop smelling that room. Maybe I'll try the office air purifier.

The descriptions for room renovations never change. That's so that you can see what the necessary renovations were if you look at them later. The checkmark is the only indication that the renovation is complete.

Thanks, Barbara, I did understand when you said the descriptions do not change; it's just that the description for that room is especially irritating in light of the peeps' behavior! I guess I'll just have to have them do something else when I am playing and observe that behavior. Also, the logic of the game so far and that of the VVs made me think it was a puzzle to be solved.
Thank you responding. I've asked about this issue several times on various forums, including Arthur's FB site for the game.
Best regards,
Ruby

Have you tried scolding your family members when they are smelling the room? If so, did it make a difference? There are a lot of things the peeps do that don't have any real significance in the game, and different players are going to view them differently.

Would I scold them for smelling something funny in the fridge, or smelling smoke from the stove? It would never have occurred to me to scold them for smelling something wrong in their home because they live there and can sniff out odors that I cannot. Popping a pimple, on the other hand, is immediately reprimanded!
We gamers learn to go with the flow because game puzzles so often rely on the game developer's logic. You know, how in an adventure game, a glass cutter must be used to enter through the window of an abandoned shed when to our minds, that rock we have in our inventories should work as well! };-)

My little peeps smell the blue room too - I thought it was something stinky coming from the second bathroom!!

I got an email once about finding out who used to live in the house or something. Do you think maybe the house is haunted???

Well, you posted this under the "smelling the room" topic, so the previous owner, if deceased, would not be a ghost. I don't think ghosts have an odor. . .

They. can leave scents of this or that in hauntings. And I meant to post under smelling the room. Any other ideas. No one seems to know yet

I think that Arnie, Master of Meditation, might know. He stated that smelling the room was not a bug, so I suspect he knows what it's about.

I have the same problem with the family smelling the room. I tried hitting them with the red hand and they run away, but that doesn't change the behavior. I've moved the furniture around - just beds in there, but there's no difference. I wonder if it's connected to something yet to come in an update?

At least there seems to be another puzzle besides
getting rid of the ants permanently.

Well, there is
watering the flowers - although that isn't particularly hard.

Mine just started smelling the room too; but only started after getting the 2nd bathroom done. Maybe a plunger needs to be added to the Flea Market :-)

I'm thinking it has something to do the hose that's by there, but i haven't figured it out yet.

I keep thinking there is a dirt spot or a lost sock or something they are smelling for!

I think the blue room is meant to be the boys' room, and the teal one the girls', as per specifications in one of the house notes. Each room has one associated action: giggle parties and mysterious odors (since boys tend to be a little sloppier). At least, that's how it makes sense to me.

Re: Smelling the room - 06/05/13 11:02 AM
Has anyone, other than me, thought that there may be something (or someone!!) buried under that room? I started wondering about this after some of the mysterious letters about "Margaret" and room specs. I dismissed this gory conclusion since this is a family oriented game, but I keep wondering if there is one last mystery concerning the smelly room to be solved that is connected to "Margaret" and the room specs.

Re: Smelling the room - 06/05/13 11:26 AM
According to a couple of game reviews I read Arthur has hinted that LDW will add more puzzles to the game by way of updates in future (no time scale given!). When you first visit an undeveloped room a hint pops up that says something to the effect that the peeps can pay to have the room renovated, or might be able to repair it some other way. That looks very much like a 'hook' on which to hang a future puzzle. I wonder if 'smelling the room' is another?

Re: Smelling the room - 06/05/13 11:49 AM
Arnie, I hope you're right about future updates to add puzzles and mysteries to be solved! Now the anticipation is going to drive me nuts - like the wait for VF2 for desktop!

Re: Smelling the room - 06/05/13 01:31 PM
I play on both iOS and desktop and I very much hope that future updates are released on both platforms (and Android). It would hardly be fair if desktop players were the only ones not to get regular updates simply because it's much easier to deliver updates through the Apple and Google Play stores (and, presumably, the Kindle Fire equivalent).

Re: Smelling the room - 08/15/13 06:30 AM
I did have a thought about the blue room and the peeps smelling it from the doorway. One of the notes from Margaret says that the room is to be big enough for 3 little boys. Now as the room was never finished, we know that something stopped Margaret and Bill from finishing it, Bill's death perhaps? My thought was that what the peeps are smelling might be Margaret's perfume. (Yes, ghost are reported to leave smells) If Bill had died, and with his death her hopes of having children, can't you imagine Margaret standing in that doorway, mourning not only Bill, but her chances of having all those children, too?

Re: Smelling the room - 08/28/13 09:28 AM
FadedLily, I totally agree. You have some very good points there.
I do not have the blue room yet, but my families are constantly. "Checking out strange smell" in the kitchen area. Is this something that needs to be solved or just something they do?

Re: Smelling the room - 10/03/14 08:15 AM
That's a different action. If you watch,
they'll go to the fridge, take out a huge (presumably stinky) fish, and drop it in the garbage.
Yeah, they do that but then shake their heads and continue to try to find the smell.

Re: Smelling the room - 10/04/14 03:03 AM
Yup. But in my experience, simply dropping something stinky in the trash doesn't make my house smell better
So, what is the action that we should do when our people are smelling the room? I’ve tried placing them next to the fridge, hoping they will clean it out (bad fish they sometimes throw out), but they don’t. Also, the trash is not full (it shows 0), there aren’t socks on the floor when this happens, I’m at a loss, but I’m over it, it happens quite often. Any ideas on how to fix it, please? 😊
Have you tried scolding your family members when they are smelling the room? If so, did it make a difference? There are a lot of things the peeps do that don't have any real significance in the game, and different players are going to view them differently.
I have been scolding my peeps for smelling the room for multiple generations now, (version 1.7.1) & they just keep on smelling the room. Just FYI.
Thanks,
Sarah

Re: Smelling the room - 12/28/20 03:27 PM
This is old, but they smell the room( the green bedroom) because the lady that used to live there had very strong perfume, going along with the backstory. So It is not a bad smell necessarily.
