ALL Questions about FOOD & STEWS. [SPOILERS] - 02/23/10 05:10 AM
Just wondering when it says "unfinished stew" does it mean it's unfinished as I have not found all the ingredients yet or unfinished as it's not finished cooking?
Kinda confusing so I was just wondering. Thanks

Re: Question about stew. - 02/23/10 05:23 AM
You haven't found all the ingredients yet
Add food from your food bin if it asks for something nutritious

ok.. I have added food, i have added herbs,.. Now what? I cant get it to stop saying 'unfinished stew...

Re: Question about stew. [SPOILERS] - 02/23/10 06:07 AM
Mine didn't work at first either, then i
added 3 different herbs and food from the bin (not the berries) and it made the stew.

Re: Question about stew. [SPOILERS] - 02/23/10 06:13 AM
Also make sure you are
adding fresh water and not salt water. Salt water is only for non-food recipes

ok, i will try both of those, thank you both!

How do I get them to put food in the pot?
I have tried having my researcher pick berries but he takes them
to the food hut. Do I have to put him on the food hut for him to
take food?

Re: Question about stew. [SPOILERS] - 02/23/10 07:21 AM
Dixie,
Yes, you have to drop him on the food hut. He will then have his status change to saying "adding to the stew."

*L*
I fed them 2 red and one white and
!
Other flowers tell me they are not ready yet...
when does that happen? So far I am only able to pick 2 types
Also when your able to pick all will someone please post
a guide on what flowers do what?
Thanks

Re: Question about stew. [SPOILERS] - 02/23/10 07:44 AM
There is also the yellow flower just above the research table.
As for the flowers that are not ready yet, you have to wait for something else to be complete before you can use those.
And I'm sure someone will post a guide on what mixture of flowers do what.

Re: Question about stew. [SPOILERS] - 02/23/10 08:18 AM
Ya I found them and the villagers could not get enough!
Here are 2 I have found hope they help someone
3 yellow flowers = sweet mix that they villagers not only eat but use to honor the tree.
2 yellow and one red = all the villagers gather and eat health goes up

Re: Question about stew. [SPOILERS] - 02/23/10 08:43 AM
I'm sure we will be posting a complete guide to stews but it may have to wait a little bit. Meanwhile there are 2 things that can cause it to say unfinished stew.
For most edible stews, you will need
3 herbs; fresh water and food from the food bin.
If you have a mix of 3 different herbs, that relates to puzzle 11. This is a special stew and likely will not be solved until the game is well under way. You will have to solve puzzles 3; 7; & 12 first. You also have to have some advanced levels in certain fields.

Refusing to eat stew [contains spoilers] - 02/23/10 11:55 AM
I have been having trouble getting my villagers to eat stews.
I've made at least 4 different stews successfully earlier today (so I know what needs to be done), but now they just won't eat. The message I'm getting is "unfinished stew". There definitely IS boiling water, 3 herbs, and something from the food bin.
I wonder if it has something to do with my completed puzzles. I just finished puzzle 7, and when I make someone use that, they carry the item to the stew, not to the food bin. When I get the message that it's unfinished, I can still take something from the food bin. When I click on the pot, I don't get a "x more herbs needed" message.
I cannot empty out the water, and have had a "water must be boiling" message a few times. So I've done that part again, added 3 more herbs, more food, and tried it all over again (basically doing everything except filling the pot with water, because the water is already there). Every time, the villager is happy to mix (if there were already too many herbs, I'd expect they'd say so), but once mixed, and food added, they refuse to eat, saying "unfinished stew".
After closing the game down and reopening, the pot is now empty. I make a stew using all the correct ingredients, and they still refuse to eat, saying the stew is unfinished.

Re: Refusing to eat stew [contains spoilers] - 02/23/10 12:12 PM
Just noticed, my child is also now carrying mushrooms straight to the stew, not to the food bin.
I have a feeling it's getting mixed up about exactly what IS in the stew, as it will now allow me to just keep adding more and more ingredients.

Re: Refusing to eat stew [contains spoilers] - 02/23/10 03:48 PM
I will not give you the straight point-blank answer; but I will give you a couple of hints:
The action line for your villagers says the stew needs something nutrious -- what is nutrious? Think about it, the item has been in every VV game. Try taking your villager around to various places that one will find nutrious things.

QuickStorm, I was going to PM u, but i think Rockmower said it would help just to put it here.
i thought, and i did it, but they took it to the food bin, not the stew! i had them take from the bin, so i dont know if it was that or what! it smelled yummy and everyone came and ate some lol

Re: Refusing to eat stew [contains spoilers] - 02/23/10 05:51 PM
TY, Esther, but I will not give a complete step by step guide for making the stew unless someone is really stuck. The game has only been out for a short time and we should all try to be a little creative in solving the puzzles.
With that said, there are many stews but there are three levels of cooking knowledge:
Quick Stews
These only call for two ingredients
Easy, Breezy Stews
These require three ingredients
The Gourmet Lovers Stew
This requires quite a few different types of ingredients.
is there a second food sorce i have the berrys i know about the stew but is there something else fishing or something.

Re: food - 02/23/10 06:46 PM
bfunky, to catch fish and cook fruit:
Fish -- this is a two-tiered puzzle, first you will need to repair the piers and after you have the clothing hut finished with the ability to make pulp; you will be able to finish the piers and have your villagers fish.
Cooking oven -- did you clear the debris? Did you put the hot rocks on the pit? Did you put the big leaves on the pit? You will need to complete those projects to cook the fruit.

Re: Refusing to eat stew [contains spoilers] - 02/23/10 11:21 PM
So are you saying, while VV2 and VV3 all required water, 3 herbs, and food from the food bin, VV4 is not the same? That some recipes only require 2 items, some 3, and some a lot more? Hmm, that's going to make it a bit tougher.
I've tried food from the bin, mushrooms, cooked fruit.
I bet I know what the missing ingredient is then...

I will
pick 3 vines... next to the steps after you have built the clothing hut, you get this if you have level 2 in science, make a stew using salt water, click on the stew pot the villager will take the pulp to a rock, there you will have someone make the pulp into cloth.. once you have the cloth place villager on the pier with the coiled rope.. it will repair the pier and you can now fish... you will have to make cloth 2 or 3 times to finish

It still says unfinished stew!!
Edit:
Now I'm not sure if the mushroom was added or not because the water got cold in the pot... This is frustrating, I just picked 3 mushrooms in a row and now there are none

Is there something else that nobody is saying but is supposed to be a common sense thing? Or a puzzle I didn't complete. Only puzzles I haven't completed are # 9, 11, 14, 15, and 16.
Maybe this is a glitch :\

I've got a red, a white and a yellow herb and food from the bin (it looks like he's carrying berries) in the boiling water. I read somewhere here that the food in the pot shouldn't be berries. Since that's the primary source of food (well, that is until I run out - which won't be long now!), how can I make sure that he carries mushrooms?
I keep getting the message that there's an unfinished stew ... am I doing something wrong, missing an important step? Do I need a special level of something (I'm at level 1 of everything)? Please help me because I'm just about out of food and my tribe will slowly but surely starve to death. :-(

Re: ALL Questions about FOOD & STEWS. [SPOILERS] - 02/27/10 04:14 PM
Stews aren't a source of food. They do use food, so if your villagers are starving I'd stay away from them, If I were you.
There is no stew to make the villagers move faster.

Re: ALL Questions about FOOD & STEWS. [SPOILERS] - 02/27/10 05:21 PM
I had this "unfinished stew" and made a post here in

To empty out the water so you can start over, there is a sort of drain with a grate over it near the pot. Put a villager on it and he will empty the pot for you. As it says in the Guide, lol. Everyone should download the guide

I am trying to get the trophy for my villagers having hiccups. So far no one has had them. I don't want to know the solution to this situation, as I want to figure it out myself. All I will ask is this: Do I need to make a certain stew to give them the hiccups, or will they get them through another means? Again, please don't respond with the solution--just say yes or no as to whether it involves a particular stew or not. Thx.

this what you need for the grand feast
fill pot with fresh water, add heated rock, have villager add one white herb, one yellow herb, one red herb, then food from the food bin. Then you need a mushroom, a fish, a cooked fruit, and some berries - all of which can be added in any order. Last, more food from the food bin. Drop your villager on the pot and it should start the feast! By the way, pulpy vines are not needed.
Hope this helps.

Re: (spoiler) Hic up Stew - 03/19/10 02:39 PM
The grandiose feast is essentially the same as the Grand Feast puzzle (
Puzzle 11), but with more villagers.
All the villagers should take part of their own accord, although remember that babes-in-arms aren't counted. Another thing is to avoid the temptation of picking up and dropping a slow-moving villager on the pot in hopes of speeding things up. In fact, that will result in resetting the feast: all the other villagers already served will lose their bowls and will start again. There is the danger that the timer will run out and all the food will be gone before they are all fed.
BTW, a crab is definitely not needed.
Posted by: Jenny23
Re: (spoiler) Hic up Stew - 03/19/10 06:46 PM
Yes, I have confirmed that the crab is not needed. I purposely did the feast before I had caught even 1 crab and it worked.

Okay, I'm feeling a little impaired on this one so I wanted to see if I'm clear on this...
Regarding the hard fruit...
I have the fire, cleared the debris from the stream, placed the V-shaped rock. I have put 4 hot rocks under the pot of water. I still can't get the banana tree frons on the pot, but that may be that I'm too slow. Once I do get the frons on the pot will the villager carry the hard fruit to the pot?
They do shake the tree and fruit falls, they pick the fruit up but then nothing happens.
Apologies if this has been asked and answered. I really did look through several threads before posting

Try sending them to the
pile of rocks near the fruit tree. If conditions are right they should remove the rocks.
If you need more help just let me know... I don't want to ruin the puzzle for you.
To get started on clothmaking
your villagers need to cut down some pulpy vines and cook them up.
Then there's a few more things you'll need to do.

Re: boiling water/making stew - 04/20/10 04:15 AM
No, deevineyaya, you don't need to have boiling water to get to the yellow fruit. The best way to figure out something is to drop a villager on things all around the village to see what he/she does. Drop him/her everywhere, on everything, empty spaces included. That should help you find the answer you are looking for. Good luck.

Oh yes it is! Not until late on in the game, though.
Well, I'd call it the middle of the game, since I had just about half the puzzles solved then and only some 8 villagers, counting the two kids.
As soon as you've caught enough crabs to solve one of the puzzles, the additional ones are food: 35 basic points (I assume), 52 with the 50% boost at Food Mastery 2 (I attest), and doubtless 70 when doubled.

Re: Question about stew. [SPOILERS] - 07/05/10 07:03 PM
Fish, and crabs. Here's instructions on how to get them:
Fish:
(Things you need: Cloth) Drop a villager on the peer at the beach, they will begin repairing it, then after they fixed the peer drop them on the clothing hut, they will get cloth for the nets, this might take 4-5 times, then the farmer can fish.
Crabs:
(Things you need: Fishing nets, 2 children, and an adult.) Once you repaired the fishing nets, you'll see crabs, you'll need to solve another puzzle before having crab for a food source, when you see a crab, quickly pause the game, drop a child on it, un-pause it, and quickly drop the 2nd child on it, (You need to un-pause it before you put the 2nd child on it because if you don't, you'll see an error that could erase up to 10 minutes of data.) the crab will start to slow down, then drop an adult on it and they will carry the crabs to the
moss-covered stones, repeat this five times, but 1-2 crab at a time, because if you have 3 adults all carrying crabs at the same time, you'll get an error like the one I mentioned earlier, then after you've uncovered the stones, you can have crab as a food source.
Oh, and mushrooms that pop up around the village.
Posted by: MissKathy
Re: Question about stew. [SPOILERS] - 07/05/10 07:58 PM
Don't forget about the mushrooms. I keep children around to keep collecting both the regular ones and the rare red ones. The red ones are worth more too.

Re: Question about stew. [SPOILERS] - 07/06/10 10:56 AM
That first part was not quite right, VFLover.
(Things you need: Cloth) Drop a villager on the peer at the beach, they will begin repairing it, then after they fixed the peer drop them on the clothing hut, they will get cloth for the nets, this might take 4-5 times, then the farmer can fish.
Actually, when the piers have been rebuilt, you should drop a villager on a pier again to get them to fetch cloth to repair the nets. If you drop the villager on the clothing hut you'll just be asked if you want to change his/her clothes.
